    "Specialist" Contractors

You have to remember we are fitting power generation on a roof with the potential for severe consequences like fire or panels flying off in a gale. You would not want Mickey mouse gear being used. No different to general electrical gear which all has to meet CE and other standards. Prices of...

    "Specialist" Contractors

The MCs assessment is an all day event, I think the quickest I ever managed was 6 hours, and I was MCs registered for 10 years. The paperwork system is a full ring binder of documents. In short it's like running a large company.

    "Specialist" Contractors

Supply and demand, simples! 😁 The trouble with grant systems is a shed load of paperwork, followed by slow payment for work done, ie months. So you have to be able to carry debt for months, which is difficult, but that still does not justify the overcharging for the work. Most of my profits...

There's a lot of overheads running MCS, but anything took wise with solar written on them is triple the price. MC4 crimpers £200 for example.

    House purchase - old electrics

No such thing as a stupid question. People gave far more gadgets these days, so more sockets are required. My parents bought their house in 1966, they were pleased they had a single socket in every bedroom. These days you need at least 3 doubles in a bedroom to cope with phone chargers, radios...

    House purchase - old electrics

switch outside bathroom is more reliable than a pull switch. General rule is a double socket in every corner, at least two double sockets behind TV, and lots of sockets in kitchen. USB charging sockets useful in kitchen and beside beds for phone charging. Utility is probably the only place...

Scout Hut Wiring Advice (3 Phase)

If your mate us a qualified sparky, perhaps you could get him to design the circuitry, supervise you doing the donkey work, and sign it off on completion. To become an electrician is still a 4 year apprenticeship, you can learn an awful lot from reading and the internet, but that will never...

    Static Caravan IET regulations.

Yep, the electrical regs have a lot of 'recommendations' that allows for professional assessment of a situation. A landlord may be renting to students who are good at breaking things, or an old couple that look after the property, so would need different testing regimes. I would stick with the...

    Static Caravan IET regulations.

How often a unit is tested us subject to opinion, but as you are planning to rent it, I'm guessing for holidays, I would suggest retesting yearly rather than 5 years. My reasoning would be holiday makers can be ' careless' on what they rent. Visual inspection for damage every time it's rented.

How much do you charge for an EICR?

I used to charge around £150, but I've retired as of last year. Talking to the staff at Denmans the other day, it seems most of the electricians in my area now work on £50-60 per hour, which is in line with your £250.

4mm Radial Circuit using Wago 5-way?

What cable are you planning on using for the run back to the house? I would run swa from house to shed off MCB not sharing a rcd. Install a mini board in shed and treat each cable run as separate circuits from RCBOs in mini board. You also need to consider earthing arrangements, if you main...
