Octopus , FIT and no MCS

It was discussed several times in the PV section . Might cost you a registration fee of, I think, £250. 15p a KW is better than the last few years of the FiT.

    DNO Cut-Out location - regulations / guidance?

around my way, there are usually fixed to a wooden backboard, which is screwed to the 'fabric of the building'. You can see the board in the top photo. The only thing you can really do is contact DNO and ask them to come out and have a look at it. If you provide them a nice external meter box...

    DNO Cut-Out location - regulations / guidance?

Not that unusual in older property. Worst place I've found CO is an upstairs back bedroom. It does look like whoever fitted the kitchen might have moved the equipment, or the kitchen was fitted first, we shall never know the answer to that. I can't think of anything you could throw at DNO to...

Ducting length for a cooker hood extractor fan?

I suspect it will work fine, especially if using a smooth walled pipe. The airflow part of F is really aimed at new builds , which are far more airtight than existing buildings. My own house was built in 1886, airflow is not an issue as there's ruddy draughts everywhere :D

    Cut cable under the flooring

better off with Trading Standards or whoever the company is registered with, but, being Scottish, that is not a requirement north of the border. However, as the company has voluteered to fix the problem themselves, then it's not that likley that anyone would do anything, which is a sad state of...

    Metal detecting!

I was talking to a young lady detectorist in our local park a fe years ago. The park itself had been used to house American troops before D Day, so is quite popular with detectorists, as well as those just looking for lost coins. Her brother had found a large lead plaque with the name of Julius...

    Cut cable under the flooring

whilst the crimps are fine, electrical tape has no recognised insulation capabilities. There is a such a thing called Alpha tape, which does have tested insulation properties, but mostly we use 'non maintenance' junction boxes these days for such repairs, and most electricians carry a few...

    Sufficient earthing advice ?

this is always a little confusing, but the 16mm T&E will have a sufficient size cpc for the ampage carryng capacity of the cable, as have all cables. Is there a main earth terminal by the Switch Fuse?

Is it possible to take power for a 1.kw towel rail heater and extractor from a lighting circuit

Not seen one for years, dint see many fan heaters either these days. I made the mistake of turning on a fan heater that no one had cleaned for years, the thick layer of dust nearly caused a fire..

Is it possible to take power for a 1.kw towel rail heater and extractor from a lighting circuit

simple answer is yes you could, we used to fit 300/500w halogen floodlights for security to houses, so 200 W should not be an issue n it's own right. However, you have to get a cable down from ceiling into wall, so it may well be easier to lift floorboards and find a suitable socket circuit to...
