    sounds like a poor earth, but I would just replace the whole thing as it maybe the heating element failing, or damp in the other electrical bits.

    farmers mess! Probably safer to TT the lot. If I remember correctly theres something about sub mains and 300mA RCD for farm buildings - reliablity with fire protection, in the regs. havnn;t got my book to hand to have a read.

    how much is a larger shunt v some large diodes? Looking at an installation video for the shunt, I can't see any obvious reason why your cunning plan wouldn't work

    dimming LEDs can be a right mare! Ive got a set to fit, KSR downlights and Hamilton dimmer, the dimmer needs setting up to work, it will be interesting to see how well it dims.

    your standard ring circuit puts 2 cables into one MCB, so spur off at the MCB if you like, it's still just a radial cct.

    nevr understod 6 lugs, I think only MK ever made a double socket that had 4 screws, sometime before I was born :D
