Measuring solar panels current.

I bought on Amazon solar set with four pannels and installed dc a - meter 30A between pannels and controller expecting showing current from the pannels.
It shows irregular pulses up and down between 10 and 15 amps depending on sunshine. There is no continues stream.
Can anyone advise?

Is it connected to a storage battery? At a guess the controller is pulsing to regulate the battery charge needs.
