    Install practices which annoy you

Remote /electric garage doors fed from the CU in the garage (no other access)   Mechanical handle (if any) lost /stored in the garage Things behind /stuffed down the back of kitchen wall cupboards Anything a landscaper did Anything a plumber did 😂

    Outbuilding

15 LEDs is a lot of switch on surge, I've had trouble with 9 on one switch.  You can divide among several switches to split the surge in time (but its likely the breaker will still trip after a power cut / interuption) or if they are dimmable run them through a soft start type LED dimmer...

High pitched noise in one area of house

My advice would be to get some kids in - they will hear it clearly if its there

HELP! Drayton Lifestyle LP111 programmer & LP711 programmer

Drayton programmer displays often go crazy if there is a messy power cut  (part voltage intermittent etc) before power is fully restored It is often possible to reset them with a clean switch off, wait a minute and on again.  Use local isolator switch-fuse unit or  if there isn't one the...

    "Sky" satellite dish

If you have a satellite box or tv that has already scanned the channels on a working dish then it’s relatively easy to set it to a channel, connect to the new dish and wave the dish around until it comes to life.  Then Finely tweak position and skew using the tv’s signal display    Once...

So we're not supposed to go to the pub

The dilution to around 70% is to stop the IPA evaporating before the virus is destroyed - takes about 10 seconds apparently and that mixture evaporates more slowly than 100% IPA while going weaker the mixtures don't attack it enough

Did you test other sockets around the house.  ?

    Coronavirus latest

Not taking this too seriously but hating misinformation I should say that my best medical source says one of the quite useful distinguishing features of Corona virus vs 'normal flu'  is that COVID19 rarely gives you a runny nose while normal flu generally does. OCD session ended 20:49

LED batten fittings ...anyone having problems ?

The amount of LED lamps and drivers that are going into the skip at a tiny fraction of their supposed lives leads me to question both the cost savings and the environmental benefits they were supposed to bring.

    Non standard boiler installation

I agree.  Having separate Heating Zones is simpler than trying to make 3 boilers share the load and work economically

Explaining SPD’s to your costumers , eyes glaze over

"They just might save your TV or laptop if there's a power fault or nearby lightning"  . . . . .   "Even a good extension lead has them these days"

    Bathroom extractor - take 2

Just to start the fun some maker's instructions ask the fan be run via a 3A fuse  . .    To avoid the dangers of multiple fuses that usually means the entire circuit run via the fuse Other makers  'sort of' allow a 6A lighting circuit breaker to serve but often only via a cryptic diagram

    Changing sockets and switches

And in that era having CPC and having actual Earthed CPC incl being properly joined together in the ceiling JB's  vs vaguely twisted outside were two entirely different things

    Loft light installation.

Apart from the damage to the old junctionbox the cables you showed in it are very old and may be the old 2 core rubber insulated type which, if so, are now long past their use-by-date.  Any mechanical disturbance to rubber cables can cause the insulation break up/fall off  into chunks which is...

What should the voltage be across the mains switch when off?

If it is a new installation or consumer unit and the LED problems date from that installation these are questions better addressed to whoever installed and certified it.    Likely you are seeing induced / capacitively coupled voltages in the CU and the (probably cheap) LEDs  and there are...

Hiding A Cable Behind Architrave And Door Frame

You could argue that leaving it as they did at least gave a heads-up to the bloke who brings his crowbar along to remove the architrave in 5 years time  - as others have said it's compliant (if untidy)  as it's in a 'standard' area where cables should be presumed to run
