    Aico test switch question

On the smoke alarm cert, will you sign the design box, or the architect? The nic cert I have has only 1 box for design, installation and commissioning

HELP - poo coming out of rainwater drain

There must be another one out the back somewhere (or basement?). Assuming that the one you think is all rainwater is out front. Take a look at other houses next door and see if they have 2.

    LED Strange light flashing

Are these the instructions http://www.gjd.co.uk/sites/default/files/pdf-files/dygizone_installation_guide_.pdf There is a manual override which bypasses the PIRs, so you can test it is not the PIRs If it is a different light which is flickering each time in the same zone, the problem seems...

    Typical builders !!

Nothing, if they haven't been informed about it. Sounds like they should have been though.

    New type of thermostat

Perhaps a programmable thermostat was intended to be put there. Was it wired in triple and earth? I recently had to speak with a gas installer who fitted a replacement boiler in one of my client's properties while I was on holiday. He hadn't fitted a roomstat, although boiler did have a clock...

    Test Rig

Just get a sheet of plywood, put CU, sockets, lights and switches on it, wire everything from behind. Feed it from a 3A fused 3-pin plug and 3-core flex wired into the main switch of the CU with earth wire to main earth terminal.  Best of luck

fireplace central heating with an extra electric water heater.

On a central heating system, just installing a non-return valve would not be enough to satisfy water regulations,  A removeable link should be fitted and disconnected after filling.  See https://www.wras.co.uk/consumers/advice_for_consumers/what_are_the_water_regulations_/...

    And then today ........

Give the builders an invoice for a day's pay, don't forget to add a bit on so they can deduct CIS from you  :innocent

    Earth Bonding

I assume you had a powerflush done. He would have used some sort of mechanical vibration on the radiators to loosen the sludge within them, which in turn could have loosened any earth bonding on the water pipe(s)

    Amazon delivery:

I can see the logic in having standard sizes of boxes in a delivery van. Easier to stack and identify, plus less chance of losing that piddly little package that might fall off the back. Anyway Tony, with all those spare boxes, may I wish you many happy returns. :)

    CTJ4

Hi CTJ4, now that sheds a different light on the situation. You can perhaps see how we assumed the worst from the information given.  I still am a bit confused as to why you need a new CU and not extending the existing ring to include the new sockets and to add fused spurs for the lighting...

    CTJ4

I would be wary of using this sparkie. If he is employed by a company he probably will not have his own insurance, nor be a member of a scheme in his name and may not be able to notify his work. Is the garage attached to your property or separate? A metal CU might not be necessary. The existing...
