    Earth bonding on street furniture

Basic protection appears present behind the door of the equipment though. I can’t see any exposed live parts in the picture. I would go with the equipment being IP 4x?

    Earth bonding on street furniture

It has no fixed lugs and is entirely painted, with no reliable path for boding the lid back to the main enclosure. Cables and terminations under undue mechanical strain, ergo a risk of pull out and contact with the lid, thus bond the lid & re-terminate and support the cables. Basic insulation...

    RCBO advice

I have never said that 7671 is necessary. Though AdP requires you comply with 7671. I am stating that compliance with the LVD is required for consumer units because that is the law. 7671 is not needed to implement that requirement.

    RCBO advice

Please see my other reply. It is law and standard compliance that is the issue, not manufacturers instructions.

    RCBO advice

It's not the manufacturers' instructions you have to worry about. It is the product law and product standards that you need to comply with the requirements of BS 7671 that you need to worry about.

The whole installation is not a ready-made product which requires CE marking. The consumer unit assembly is. The consumer unit falls under EN 61439-3 (nee 60439-3). The installation is bespoke to the premises, & is covered by BS 7671.

    RCBO advice

The requirements for type testing of assemblies is in the product standard for the assembly. So it does work like that. I don’t do any sparky work any longer. All the work I do these days is product safety consultancy for manufacturers of equipment under the LVD & MD (& UK equivalent) PUWER and...

    Amendment 2 problem.

All, Kirsty is only one of many. Manufacturers have to be present on JPEL/64 to advise on the technological developments. By far the largest contingent on the committee are those employed by or linked to Certsure. While they can be accused of being faceless they are not nameless. The names and...

    RCBO advice

Apart from the product standard requirements for a tested assembly & the legal requirements for CE marking of the assembly. The situation is completely different to that with automotive aftermarket parts.

    RCBO advice

Apart from the fact that whilst the enclosures and breakers may well be tested individually. They are also tested as an assembly, else they are not compliant. So this is why the final assembly is important, enclosure and protective devices. So, yes mixing the brand of breakers WILL invalidate...

    RCBO advice

In my reply I will use CE to refer to CE & UKCA marking. I will also use LVD to refer to the Low Voltage Directive and the Electrical Equipment Safety Regulations. I will use harmonised to refer to both harmonised to the LVD and designated to the EESR standards. As far as I am aware, in...

    MICC gland thread

@Phoenix the threads are to BS31, they are not BSW/F or P, or any UN. 1” conduit is 16 threads to inch, tpi. So it’s special to conduit.

    Dual RCD

For final circuits 314.4 applies so therefore no shared N conductors if the lines are connected to two separate breakers.

Old Garage Roller Door drives down on up or down command

For all my experience, if I wanted advice on a roller door of this type, it would be @Andy™ I would be asking! He has forgotten more about these doors than I have ever known!

    Dual RCD

No it doesn't. It means what it says. Also limiting in-service leakage to be less than 9 to 10 mA per device is impossible if you have multiple final circuits on one RCD. Remember a 30 mA device can legitimately trip at 16 mA by design and not be deemed faulty by the manufacturer, product...

    Dual RCD

Well clause 531.3.2 already suggests they are not compliant. Not sure how anyone could justify the use of a split board and prove they meet all the requirements.
  19. Sidewinder

    Dual RCD

There has NEVER been a prohibition on using individual RCBOs on circuits. Clause 531.3.2 requires that individual RCBOs are considered for residential premises. It also requires that in-service leakage is < 30% of the RCD nominal earth leakage rating per device. Good luck in keeping the leakage...

    13A sockets for EVs

Not unhelpful at all. If it’s surface trunking or ceilings down, so be it. They wanted to have the EV, they have made their bed now they have to lay in it. If that means a proper charge point because they were lied to by the scammer car salesman so be it, their problem, not yours.
