Help with a weird light switch?

I thought you may ask. It is a device that protects life by cutting off the electric supply if it senses certain faults such as you getting a shock If you can post a pic of your fusebox & meter area we can advise you more

Help with a weird light switch?

This is what you should use if you dont have any RCD protection in the house. Forget it costs a few pounds more than the previous link i gave as this could save a life https://www.screwfix.com/p/masterplug-ldcs2510bq-4rcd-xd-10a-4-gang-25m-cable-reel-240v/55494

    Electricity connection

Is the existing supply in one of the flats or in the common area. From your 'dispute' i would guess the supply head is in one of the flats & that's why they wont reconnect. It was the norm to have  numerous supply fuses in say a basement of a house/shop/flat that divided supplies into the...

quite right. I am getting to old with all the same things having the names changed. Bring back live, neutral & earth, nothing else   :coat

    Rewired or Not?

You cant tell what the house electrics are like from a few pics, but i would guess the age of the MK board with breakers to be the 1981 date on the inspection sticker. The house may  not need rewiring although an update of the consumer unit with Rcd protection may be a good idea. You seem to...

    Gofor

Makes me feel young  :B   I started on the 14th when everything was this modern metric stuff & although the conduit was, most the boxes were still 3/4"  so the apprentices job was to file out the holes.  I also remember all the boxes had every knockout missing as the sparkys took them to use...

I would use the terminal/cable names rather than lead colours. My Metrel uses black for line , blue for neutral & green earth. My new Fluke uses brown for line. Most, but not all meters will record/test Pfc when testing Ze.  I also test for Psc  PFC is tested Line to Earth.

Recommended re- test EICR date ?

My GN3 is out of date but wont bother getting it updated till next year when the 18th edition,  revision 7 will probably be out.

Recommended re- test EICR date ?

No, its all in GN3 (Guidance note 3, Inspection & testing) A IET publication. Table  3.2  Change of occupancy/5 years  for commercial. Routine check, 1 year . Industrial is 3 years.

Engineers code - is my alarm secure?

Did you have dirty/worn buttons that make it easy to see the 4 buttons pressed -  also did you have a code that was your or wife/daughter/sons birthday/anniversary etc .  I dont do that many alarms nowadays but it still amazes me that male customers 90% of the time will ask me to put 1966 in for...

A major safety  issue here - although its a   live test the main switch must be off before  removing the main cpc

    Aldi / Lidl Centre section

I bought a full set of there air tools over 10 years ago and still work fine.  I also bought a Parkside  (cant remember if thats Lidl or Aldi) multitool  for £14  over 5  years ago and just killed it trying to cut a  12mm hardened  steel bolt.

    Radiator Pipes and electrical sockets

I Look at that pic and compare it with the so called electricians of today. I doubt that was a time served experienced plumber that did that. Just like electrics - i can go to Screwfix and buy a short  length  of pipe and a bag of mixed  fitting, then magic, i am a plumber.
