OK Lets have 'em , Pet Hates.

The irritating inclusion of "Know what I mean?" in the middle of a sentence..... No, I don't know what you mean, but no doubt you will tell me! Customers who try to trim the bill down. Customers who complain about the price. I enjoyed saying "If you think it's expensive to hire a professional...

    Old cables

As a matter of interest, what are the colours in the rest of the installation?

Badger, I agree with you! The flipside is places like Hebden Bridge where the town centre speed limit is 20.... but many drivers seem to prefer going at about 50. Carrying on with sat-navs, the blind faith in these things does bring out the bone-heads. Example: Different sat-navs will give...

Drivers who do not use their indicators. The rest of us (motorists and pedestrians) are NOT psychic. SPITTING (and the throad-clearing that sometimes precedes it). Yuk, horrible, vile, uncouth, uncivilised, disgusting. Do spitters do it at home? Loud personal stereos (that are not so...

    Becoming a limited Company

Why can the existing logo not be used? This is a factor that does give me concern as I may be heading down the Ltd route soon. I view the logo as being a known and unique identifier for the activities that I am involved in. Thanks, Pyro.

    tv outlet shock

Agreed that a TV can (and will) store a charge for a long period of time. Based on what the OP has said, I would expect it to be volts that he is reading. Pyro.

    tv outlet shock

just took a trip into the roofspace and discovered i had piggy backed a co ax from the aerial to daughters room. turn off her tv (was on standby)and the the voltage is 8.8ac. Aaaahhhh...... that explains a lot! Further to the Class 2 (no earth to mains) nature of TVs, the TV chassis is often...

    gsm dialler

I have used both of these products: http://www.edgarsson.co.uk/gsm.htm http://www.edgarsson.co.uk/electa.htm Both use pay as you go SIM. Programming is quite easy. Good manuals and good tech support. Pyro.

    Bankruptcy

Yes, I had the experience of NaffWest in 1988. It was a ltd business liquidation, but still no less painful. My contempt, mistrust and dislike for NaffWest is documented in other posts. The liquidator's "fees" by some miraculous feat of modern mathematics was, to within a couple of pounds, the...

Thanks Admin (for the welcome back and sorting out the PI. Hmmm PIE, lunch is needed!). I have not really been away, mainly lurking and reading. Cheers, Pyro.

Advice on laying cables in screed/concrete?

    What the heck's this auto-selection of the symbol PI when the letters P and I are next to each other as in sweeping s w e e p i n g, pipe p i p e, capping c a p p i n g?

Advice on laying cables in screed/concrete?

Definitely conduit in the screed! I've done this on several jobs. IIRC it's covered in Steward & Watkins "Modern Wiring Practice". Both steel and PCV (high impact) conduit work well in this application. Easiest to run singles in 20mm conduit; if you go to 25mm you can run T&E a lot...

    Motion Sensors

With whichever type you end up using, there are a few factors to take into consideration (if you have not already done so). These are based on personal experience of lighting upgrades in a hostel building. A restaurant dunny is a tad different, but this may still be useful. 1. The "ON" time...

    Hsbc are b@rstewards

Image. When I started out I used my personal name. Invoices were printed with "All cheques to be made payable to Mr ........." Several clients (domestic and commercial) queried amounts charged, quibbled about labour rates, asked if jobs could be done for cash, if they could supply materials...

    Hsbc are b@rstewards

Myself and two partners were comprehensively "reamed" in 1988 - mid September. We had a very nice order from a client and needed a short-term loan to enable the work to be done and equipment to be delivered to the client. It was in the region of
