    The most likely fault is the headphone socket itself. Try spraying some switch cleaner into it.

    I haven't had any problems with Collingwood, been using them for a quite a while. Have 10 of them on a horse arena open to the elements, previous ones tried didn't last much longer than a year.

    Modern ecus can be damaged by jump-starting. When you change for a new battery, leave it completely disconnected for a while before replacing with the new one. Also make sure the ignition is off etc.

    A contactor that uses a lower voltage to switch. You would need to add a power supply, but cost is minimal.
