Hi all, can anyone on here recommend a good college/training provider where I can do the above courses? Ive spoke to Bury college who don't know when they will run the course next due to not having a tutor at the moment, Tameside college who promised me a place on 2394 only to then call me back...

Outside Security Light Causing Rcd To Trip

Binky, water getting in was my first thought as well. No signs of condensation or moisture in the lamp and looked bone dry inside the enclosure where all the cables are connected as well, just to make sure I did apply some silicone sealant around the incoming cable and where the screws are...

Outside Security Light Causing Rcd To Trip

About 6 months ago I installed a light outside my kitchen door. this was wired from the fused spur for my extractor fan and I performed all tests required for a minor works cert. All was well until a few weeks ago when the rcd started to trip, this seems to happen at random times, however it...

No Earthing Conductor Or Bonding, What Next

Hi all, a friend of mine asked me to have a quick look at her electrics as she had been told by the gas engineer that there was no evidence of protective bonding at the gas meter.  I looked in the cupboard to find a met with only two cables attached, one green/yellow and one just green, the...

Adding A Security Light Outside Kitchen Door

I like the look of those but don't think it would work above my kitchen door very well as there is a balcony for the flat above directly inline with the doorway

Adding A Security Light Outside Kitchen Door

I live in a ground floor flat and want to add this either above or at the side of my kitchen door. The flat has two ways in either the main entrance to the block and then through the front door or just straight in the kitchen. The extractor fan in the kitchen is on the same wall as I want to...

    Safe Zone On This Wall

I agree with you Dave that chasing straight up from the light switch and fishing cable through the hollow part would be quickest way to do it, however im trying to avoid the need to repaint the red walls.  On either side of the cupboard there is a space approx. 3 inch wide covered by a piece of...

    Safe Zone On This Wall

the part of it that goes from floor to ceiling with the light switch on is a solid wall, the part which runs over the cupboard feels like plasterboard it sounds hollow

    Safe Zone On This Wall

Sorry if ive not explained it well, ive added lines onto the picture.  Do the safe zones run along the solid blue line and then disappear behind the red section of wall or does it run along the green.

    Safe Zone On This Wall

I know the cupboard doesn't change the safe zones.  What I needed to know is does the red section above the cupboard create a step in the safe zone or does it mean that the corner of the safe zone is hidden behind it?

    Safe Zone On This Wall

forgot to mention, the reason im running cables in walls is that I live in a ground floor flat so unable to go into the ceiling as its concrete. not going under the floor as got tiles.

    Safe Zone On This Wall

Hi all, im going to convert the light in my kitchen to a two way light. I know that if no accessories are on the wall that the safe zones are 15cm along the top and sides.  bit unsure of this though as the wall isn't square and has a piece covering the top left corner, does the safe zone end...

    Rcd Spurs

im under the impression that only any new work would need rcd protection, in a house with 60898 breakers its normally straight forward to fit rcbo so would prefer to do whole circuit. Was thinking about houses with 3036 fuses

Threads That I Dare Not Answer Honestly For Fear Of Being "not" Friendly!

It was me who asked the question about the kitchen being separated from the downstairs ring if needed rewiring, I was 95% certain it could stay together but felt it was best to ask. As things turned out all circuits gave acceptable readings on all tests and only things could find that needed...

    Rcd Spurs

Just a quick question, in a house or flat with 3036 fuses which is an acceptable way of adding a spur. Could a spur be taken from an existing socket and fed sideways into a rcd fused switch or would a new break have to be made in the ring and make the fsu part of the ring final? Just wondering...
