Info about smoke/heat alarms in shop.

Ah right guys i understand now. Yes i am a bit out of my depth designing the fire alarm system for the shop, i'm ok with everything else though. I was thinking of getting advice from a fire officer or someone of that nature. So what you're saying, to cover my own ass is to get someone else to...

    Bloody plasterers ARGHHH

Luckily for me, i'm a plasterer, 24 years in that game, so sometimes, like a recent garage conversion i did, i do first fix electrics, then the plastering, then 2nd fix electrics. The electrician (me) always curls up the cables in the backbox for the plasterer (me), so the feather edge just...

Over sensitive RCD, is there a code ?

RCD has bs4293 written on it. 80A, 30ma. It doesn't trip at 1x and 5x, it trips before it gets to that, i did it on auto and it trips before even the half x, which is why i did the ramp to see what it requires to make it trip. ---------- Post Auto-Merged at 13:27 ---------- Previous post was...

Over sensitive RCD, is there a code ?

Ok, guys, thanks, but as it stands now, it doesn't look like i'll be going back to the house, (owner doesn't want to shell out any more money and there's already a code 2 there anyway, see this thread...

Over sensitive RCD, is there a code ?

No i didn't try that, i did what i usually do, ie, plug megger in at plug sockets, do rcd test, and lighting circuits, do rcd test, then usually i do all the other rcd protected cicuits which are also rcd protected. When you say all outgoing circuits removed do you mean switch off all breakers...

Over sensitive RCD, is there a code ?

Hi Andy. That's the point it trips almost immediately, on my megger 1552 on auto RCD test, it does 1/2, 1x then 5x but this rcd was tripping almost immediately, from all circuits which are RCD protected. I did the ramp test just for my own curiosity to see what is was tripping at. So is there...

Over sensitive RCD, is there a code ?

I recently did a PIR, end of last year, the RCD was over sensitive, tripping at 17ma, is there a code for this ? Code 2 (requires improvement), now i'd say yes this does require improvement, nuisance tripping maybe, but i wouldn't class this as a potential danger. Code 3 (requires further...

    regs advice on shower cct

Exactly my point, that fuse is too big, maybe i should have worded it better. 25mm instead of the first bit of 6mm would be better. Sorry, in my head i knew what i meant but it didn't come out right.

    regs advice on shower cct

It ain't rocket science, ultimately that first bit of 6mm (from main switch to shower cu) is protected by the main cut out fuse, it can't be that hard to make the customer realise that. Then again.

    EICR - r1 very high but R1 + R2 low.

Yes been paid for the PIR, the customer/mate doesn't even want the certificate. Even tried telling me that a code 2 wasn't unsatisfactory so it's ok anyway, advice from an electrician mate. I emailed him a copy of the best practice guide,(PIR and EICR) pointing out the parts that state a code 1...

    EICR - r1 very high but R1 + R2 low.

Well. I spoke to the customer/mate, explained that inconsistent resistance values on a ring warrant a code 2, so an unsatisfactory result, got the usual "well it's been ok for years" etc. Asked me how much it'll cost to put right, to which i answered i don't know, hopefully it's loose...
