Electrical wiring and light fitting- confused

Make sure you put the green and yellow and the 2 cores in the green sleeving together in the earth terminal on the light if it is a class 1. If no earth terminal make sure you still connect these cables together. These are for safety and won't effect the working of the light but may save your life.

    Need an earth?

Found this in a customers house! Single sunken back box with earthed conduit, bought forward into surface mount double but no cpc. Solution? Cable tie and wrap cpc around it! (Just to clarify not my work)

    Socket in bathroom!

Just been to a house where the customer has had a socket installed in the bathroom and it had stopped working (not installed by me). The electrician who installed it has tried to get round the regs by installing an IP rated socket! Ironically if he had sunk it into the wall it would have been...

    Multiple light fitting with LEDs

What would your aversion be to replacing a transformer in a light fitting?

    Multiple light fitting with LEDs

As previous poster probably not enough to load. You could either increase the wattage of the bulbs (lamps) or change the transformer in the fitting with a lower min wattage rating.

    Spot lights failed

The problem is when working in domestic asking the customer for a new lamp doesn't result in the desired response! I have had a customer come out with a torch as he thought I couldn't see! And judging by the question I am assuming (possibly wrongly) gadget88 would better understand the term...

    Spot lights failed

How many bulbs in total off the transformer? The transformer has a minimum load of 35w and if you are only putting in 2 14w bulbs (only see 2 in the picture) then there is possibly not enough draw on the transformer for it to work.

    Smart meters

Why do you need to read the meter? Surely the infomation is displayed on the smart display and isn't the point of a smart meter that you don't need to read it?

    Supply to shed

Also may need to check the rating of the accessories as some are only rated at 6/10a for lighting. (as per manufactures instructions)

    garage supply

Correct me if i'm wrong but Main equipotential bonding is probably what you are calling 'main protective bond' i.e. to Gas/Water/Metal structure etc size usually 10mm in domestic

Swapping an MCB on a Hager Consumer Unit

Possibly or greater friction and less efficient as parts age/scale up. Probably a bit of both.

Swapping an MCB on a Hager Consumer Unit

New showers seem to pull less when new. I see a lot of overrated showers tripping MCBs that have been in for years working fine. The customer just looks at you as if you are stupid when you tell them the installation is sub standard and needs to be rewired or a new lower powered shower and just...

    Cheap LED bulbs

No I am an avid believer in Phillips LED. Customer bought them on the internet. I think that cheap LED bulbs could be the next 'cheap phone charger' fire hazard. These were closer to going up and I bet the plastic was not flame retardant!

    Cheap LED bulbs

Hi i was wondering if anyone else has experienced problems with cheap LED bulbs? i have started seeing more problems with the circuit boards shorting out. I had a customer with 16 GU10 LED downlight in the kitchen and found that 5 had stopped working 1 has shorted and was tripping the circuit...

    Smart Controls

I had Hive and now have nest. Basic functions are similar so depends what you want to do with it. I moved to nest for better integration into a 'Smart Home' i.e. I have a smart remote to control TV (sony) lights (Phillips) heating (nest) etc from different brands. Hive are a one brand solution...

    Remote control of storage heaters

or Belkin WeMo http://www.belkin.com/uk/p/P-F7C029/ or use nest/hive with a relay if a thermostat would be useful for frost protection etc

    GPR/Fiberglass ladders

Hi I know this has been done to death but i was wondering what the rules were for site work regarding fibreglass ladders. I currently work for a large company in domestic properties and have to use the issued equipment, which includes aluminium ladders only. So I have worked off them for the...

    Hello

Hi long time lurker thought I would join in the fun. I currently work for a large blue chip company and specialise in domestic fault finding (seen a lot of very poor work, I could fill the pages of professional electrician mag 'caught on camera' every month !!).
