High RCD Trip Time Despite Good EFLZ

    1) Thanks for your reply Septiclecky. ??!!?? 2 YEARS after I posted ??!!!?? Better late than never I suppose, lol. 2) Learn some manners. I don't know what the forum sponsors think, but it doesn't reflect well.

High RCD Trip Time Despite Good EFLZ

Like I said - I was quite newly back on tools and rusty with Regulations. I was in the early stages of learning how to set up and run my business (finding premises, vehicle, insurances, learning basic tax and book keeping etc etc). On top of that there's family life to keep on top of whilst...

High RCD Trip Time Despite Good EFLZ

I don't come to this forum all that often. I've just been looking back at the few posts i've put up. I was fairly newly back on the tools when I started this post, so I was a little rusty on some aspects of the Regs. I would like to say a big Thank You to all the people who have made useful...

    Is a 70W light actually 70W?

Thanks. I was going to get a lighting manufacturer's rep in anyway, but not at this early stage. Also I'd do a trial in one area beforehand.

    Is a 70W light actually 70W?

So I guess that the retrofit LED lamp will consume way less than a fluorescent tube, along with significantly less losses in the ballast as it won't be handling so much current, hence it'll still help to reduce energy consumption? If so, then it all sounds good. My only concern is that the...

    Is a 70W light actually 70W?

Quality answers, thanks. This has prompted me to look at an old fitting which I took down from the site (I often go there to replace the odd few burnt-out fittings on a piecemeal basis). The old fittings are Thorn with Tridonic ballasts stating "Lamp:0.70A". This has also prompted me to think...

    Is a 70W light actually 70W?

Does a 70W 6ft fluorescent batten fitting actually 'consume' 70W, or is it just the lamp which 'consumes' 70W with extra losses to be accounted for in the control gear (ie additional losses in the choke etc)? Initial stages of looking at reducing energy bills for a warehouse. Old fluo battens...

    A stunt to get work?

Our local Scouts needed a handwash heater fitted. To serve our local community I've my offered my services for free. Fitting a handwash heater has now become fitting a handwash heater, hand dryer, removing and re-sitiing a space heater, fitting two more space heaters and some exterior...

High RCD Trip Time Despite Good EFLZ

Thanks Theorysparky. I too have noticed that first time trips are often all over the place, so I tend to do give new RCDs a few activations before recording results. ---------- Post Auto-Merged at 17:20 ---------- Previous post was made at 17:14 ---------- At the ceiling rose: on the switch...

High RCD Trip Time Despite Good EFLZ

Both lights on one MCB. Good point. I'll correct that. Thanks. As for trip times - they ought to be <40ms @x1. Only the lights seem to be managing this. What puzzles me more is that they have a higher impedance than the socket circuits so they should take longer to trip. I've always taken it...

High RCD Trip Time Despite Good EFLZ

Replaced an old Wylex fuseboard (BS3036 fuses) the other day. TNCS supply with Ze 0.14ohm. I was expecting fast rcd trip times on x1 and x5, but x1 are surprisingly high. Tried 0 and 180. Examples of some of the readings: Sockets (ring) Zs 0.28ohm, RCD 43ms@x1 and 22ms@x5. Sockets (radial)...

    Danger Crap Wiring

Looks like the original MICC cables were put in by people who had time to take some pride in their work. Sadly, most of the rest looks like add-ons which have been 'slung in' over the years.

    Websites

Even though I've put a lot of effort into my website it only reassures customers that I'm a proper sparky, and then only if they're looking specifically for me in the first place. Doesn't get many hits. Doesn't easily show up on Google. It's really time consuming trying to learn how to...

    Nice rewire

Some months ago, a bloke I know bought a house to rent out and had it 'completely' rewired. I went in just to change the intruder alarm panel and this is some of the stuff I saw (see pics). Bonding conductors not fixed to wall. Mains tails in stickyback trunking stuck onto peeling wallpaper...

    Invoicing.

When i applied for a VAT Reg Number, I spoke to HMRC on the phone. They gave me a temporary VAT number over the phone, which they told me to use until my proper VAT number came through.
