    House purchase - old electrics

Great advice, taken on board, many thanks. Postcode for the house in question is in ST17. Nothing can really be done until they find a buyer for their current house.

    House purchase - old electrics

OK, I'll show them this post too. I know it's a very open question but what would a ball park cost be for a pre purchase EICR? (3 bed detached in Staffordshire, house is empty).

    House purchase - old electrics

Many thanks for both replies. I'll suggest they budget for a CU replacement and cupboard tidy up. At which point the electrician will be able to advise on the rest of the wiring. I think rooms will be redecorated one by one as money allows. Extra sockets can be added at this point. A...

    House purchase - old electrics

That's a good point about saving on EICR costs by committing to a rewire. I get that a new CU would be of benefit and safer. The great big fused switch could go too, my guess is that that feeds the shed, but that is only a guess. They didn't get to see in the shed. Seems they didn't notice...

    House purchase - old electrics

My Daughter & husband are thinking of offering on a house they really like. They've taken these pictures of incoming supply, consumer unit etc. What are your opinions of likely both immediately needed and recommended upgrades? What might the foil wrap be for, on the incomer?

    Socket blowing fuse

Neutral connecting to CPC (Earth) can trip an RCD, even with the circuits breaker off. One possibility is an earthed back box and a neutral (or indeed live) has been connected to the sockets Earth terminal by mistake.

Low voltage due to solar panels?

It seems to me that the Thermomix is detecting voltage fluctuations. A Solar PV system will cause minor voltage fluctuations, raising the mains voltage slightly so that PV generated power is used in preference to imported etc. When the sun goes in the voltage drops back to grid volts. This is...

Weird Solar energy curve, or not…?

Apologies if I've hijacked the thread. My intention was just to show the OP a similar graph to his.

Weird Solar energy curve, or not…?

Oh, also, if I time charging the Nissan Leaf correctly, then that slows the battery charging which in turn allows sustained periods of say 4.5-5.5KW of generation. (Say 3KW to the car, 0.6KW to house & 1 to 2KW to batteries). Once house Batts are full, only 3.6KW is possible.

Weird Solar energy curve, or not…?

Yes indeed. 7x440W panels on each roof. So total panels is over 6KW. Inverter is Solis 3.6KW hybrid with 4.8KW of Pylontech batteries. Clearly a bigger inverter would be better but I think my next investment will be to add to the batteries. The excess of panels does at least help on duller...

Weird Solar energy curve, or not…?

I agree, most likely is panel temperature or maybe inverter temperature? But also, mine clips at the inverter output spec from the moment my batteries are full. See pic attached showing Thursday/Friday/Saturday. Blue is SE roof, red is SW roof, orange is total.

    growatt dongle reset help

I've had this where you connect to the dongles WiFi but because this means the phone now has no internet connection, the phones browser switches to using mobile data internet connection. To get past this, switch off mobile data on the phone before you start.

    Pylontech ios app?

So is there an app for iOS called Solis Cloud? (That's different to Solis Home)

    Pylontech ios app?

I use an Android phone but I can't imagine the iOS app is much different. I use the Solis Cloud app. Click on "Plant" at the bottom left and then on the area that shows Today Yield, Current Power, Installed Capacity, etc. That takes you to this page..

Installing a CT on 3 core cable.

Many thanks @binky I guess one will be on the meter tails and the other, maybe, could go inside the CU? Trouble is, both inverters are next to each other in the loft and The CU is on the ground floor. (2 Story house). If both have to be extended to reach, they'll run alongside both inverter's...

Installing a CT on 3 core cable.

Indeed it does. I got the impression that it's not a local company but they've used a local subby. Talking to what was probably head office, they very quickly agreed it was wrong. So how would you expect the 3 cores to be broken into? If it's the same guy, I'm thinking we may have to make...

Installing a CT on 3 core cable.

My friend has just had a Growatt battery system added to his existing FIT PV system. The installers couldn't get the WiFi dongle to connect to his WiFi so he asked if I'd try (I failed). While there I noticed that the two CTs had each been clamped right around 3 core cables. See pics...

Wanting to Pick the brains of you Octopus Guru's

Just out of interest, do you have to use Octopus for your export payments, if you're on one of these import tarrifs? Or can export be with a different company?

Solis 3kW AC coupled Inverter & Fogstar 5.12kWh Rack Battery ?

Think of it as intended to put a big dent in your draw from the grid rather than eliminate it all together. If you only use the batteries to mop up unused solar energy, then some days the batteries won't have charged as much as you need either, so you'll draw from the grid once they're empty...
