(Debate) Using 1.5mm wire for external double socket:

Now your being silly, my radial/radials power circuits are designed for general purpose whether it be 16 or 20A they are not unlimited sockets that is just ridiculous, it goes back to craft principles again.! Not much chance on a 1.5 t&e backed with a 6A breaker if you are happy to create...

(Debate) Using 1.5mm wire for external double socket:

I would expect the full current rating to be available to me thats the difference. 13AMPS

(Debate) Using 1.5mm wire for external double socket:

I expect to use a 13A socket exactly what its designed for without worry of the OPD tripping.

(Debate) Using 1.5mm wire for external double socket:

I understand what you are saying. I would be happier if the socket was a 5A socket

(Debate) Using 1.5mm wire for external double socket:

Agreed We see this time and time again on Electrical forums, trying to help and advise folk with work arounds because circuits are poorly designed, cables (mostly undersized) being worked to the max ccc not fit for purpose and dont achieve the correct Zs for the circuit. But one day it...

(Debate) Using 1.5mm wire for external double socket:

It has nothing to do with my standards or option, its how I've been taught out in the field and technical college. Your answer is very confusing you say you would not do it so you must also have an issue designing such a circuit. Why are you throwing in EICR? With 46 years experience in the...

(Debate) Using 1.5mm wire for external double socket:

So electrical craft principles means nothing to you, which we were all taught at college?. Its not all about BS7671 its about standard working practices.

(Debate) Using 1.5mm wire for external double socket:

IMO a radial circuit suppling socket should be on a 16A minimum with the 2.5mm cable. The only 1.5mm cable I would be happy to use for this application is MICC. Having said that all suggestions mentioned are not incorrect but IMO the circuit design is very poor. 6A protection for such a...

    Confused - lighting circuit.

Good choice to get an electrician in with all the test equipment good luck.

Is this possibly caused by poor earthing?

My partners mums house is pre 1966 and the lighting circuits have no cpcs. I have advised to have the circuits rewired and upgrade the CU. The mother is 92 years of age rewiring is just not an option. 3 class1 fittings have been installed over the years. I have changed 2 fittings over to class2...

    No Portable night storage heaters?

LL are a rule to their own. When I was metering had a job to install pre payment meters in 3 flats all owned by the same landlord. He had £1 coin meters fitted to each flat anyway by the CU it was the crudest of installs. I fitted the energy supplies PPM at the cutout/ meter position. So...

    How effective is Part P?

It's only my opinion, but the birth of modular consumer units, building up your own CU has got to have increased the risks of 🔥. Have seen some shocking loose connections on bus bar to MCB and main DP switch

Knowing the difference between imperial cable and metric?

Last time I worked on it was the 80s, we rewired a few old big houses in Highgate London.

Knowing the difference between imperial cable and metric?

Hopefully not many installations still have it. I reckon it's still in service in some. ( Hope not)

Knowing the difference between imperial cable and metric?

Vir in timber ducting dates back early 1900s, VIR singles in sliptube conduit was very common in the 1930s.

Knowing the difference between imperial cable and metric?

If I found a lighting circuit VIR in sliptube conduit. I would struggle to give it a satisfactory even before testing.
