EV SWA Feed Cable Sizing - Oversizing Payback

Volt drop is only a part of the calculations. It is Joule heating in the cable that is ultimately the important value, and volt drop is a part of this Joule heating calculation. Balancing the lifetime cost of energy lost through Joule heating against the cost of the purchase of that energy...

Google Translate App - AI Based

You're not wrong; it works very well. I used it a lot when delivering training on machine safety in China! What I can't confirm is if it comes standard on iPhones, as you used the Google version. I did use an iPhone in China, but I'm not sure if the app was already on the phone, if it was...

EV SWA Feed Cable Sizing - Oversizing Payback

"Over sizing" cables for energy saving is not unusual on larger commercial jo s, and s creating into domestic. Once Part 8 comes in. or EN 603645-8 becomes mandatory, then undertaking energy loss calculations for cables will become the norm.

Western Digital Personal Cloud Devices Hack Attack....

I have a Synology DS2413+ with a DX1211 expansion unit. I use this as a NAS, an email server, (if you have your own domain and its registered with a domain registrar), an NVR, & media server. I have just done a major re-configuration of the unit, so it's not in its final state yet for any use. I...

    Maximum Demand exceeded

I know Gary & Joe personally; they were college lecturers before they went off to form efixx with Gordon. I have lost touch with Gary since they started efxix, so I don't know if he is still teaching or not. He does know his onions, but he doesn't know everything. In that video, it is said more...

    SY Cable

Another worrying thing for me is that the sparks doing the I&T didn't know clause 110.2, xi. Yes, I do know that one from memory; that's how sad I am! If you remove the SY from the motor feeds, then you might find yourselves in breach of the manufacturer's instructions for the variable speed...

    SY Cable

That's correct, but legislation often relies on standards to achieve compliance.

Connecting Machine to 3 phase isolator switch

Another thing that is odd about this, is that the gland thread looks like it's rusty, so steel. I've never seen a steel bodied SWA gland. That said, if it is a BW or CW, then adding a banjo and fly lead may be all that is required.

    Joining different size cables

AFAIK, ALL, construction work is covered by CDM, new work, modifications, or maintenance. Now whether CDM requires us to modify existing work when subject to maintenance, if it wasn't originally complaint, is another matter, & one I am unsure about. The aspect of CDM I am thinking about here is...

    SY Cable

Remember where BS7671 ends. Outside the scope of BS7671 then SY, CY & YY can be used. Personally if the SY is good quality and correctly installed and terminated then I don't have a massive issue with it being used for the fixed installation. I have used it to overcome specific external influences.

Western Digital Personal Cloud Devices Hack Attack....

I can connect to my Synology directly with Teamviewer which is good. Though I leave my desktop PC on at all times, so I can gain access to the network through teamviewer and that. But teamviewer itself is open to attacks. DYamic DNS is also an option, but again open to attack, and it sounds...

Western Digital Personal Cloud Devices Hack Attack....

I have business connections with BT, single static IP, fastest they do in my area. Also 1GB VM with 5 static IPs. VM tend to have a sticky IP even if not officially static.

Western Digital Personal Cloud Devices Hack Attack....

I have a personal cloud, but it's Synology, on its own domain & static global IP. So it doesn't rely on anyone else's servers, but, it is susceptible to direct attacks.

    Fitting a Cooker Extractor Hood

It's actually a personal import. Whereby the person buying it, for example, from AliExpress direct from Chia directly from a Chinese company, becomes the legal importer and is thus legally responsible to ensure that the product is compliant with all legislation before it is placed in the hands...

Western Digital Personal Cloud Devices Hack Attack....

Thinking about this and the high-profile hacks, was what has just happened to Virgin Media a hardware failure, was it a configuration change gone bad, was it random software corruption, or was that a hack? Are we seeing the results of state-sponsored actors from certain unfriendly states? I...

Western Digital Personal Cloud Devices Hack Attack....

I have a WD Elements unit connected to my systems via USB, but it is local access only, no cloud access, and I can still access it, so it doesn't look like mine is hit. I only use it for redundant backup of my primary RAID anyway, and that is what it is connected to, my Synology unit via USB, so...

    Fitting a Cooker Extractor Hood

Unfortunately not unusual, but it's a criminal offence to do this. If more people asked for the DoC and proof of the compliance, such things would happen less.

    Relevance of BS7671

Clause 120.2,xi refers. BS7671 is irrelevant. BS EN 60204-1 is the relevant standard. The use of single tri-rated wiring in a cabinet is fine, as long as the access to the cabinet meets the requirements of BS EN 60204-1, & it is correctly selected and installed.
