Been asked by an elderly friend to put a 2 gang socket in her garage. Im thinking of putting an rcd protected socket in there.
The present consumer unit i think original to the property (about 25 years old) is a Square D QOE with those metal prongs and plastic clips on the back of the breakers. the Main switch is 100ma and there is no 30ma protection anywhere. TNCS earthing.
Changing the consumer unit is out of the question, so apart from the issue of discrimination especially when testing the 30ma rcd at *5, is there any reason why i cant do this.
As far as I can see I am leaving the installation safer as they normally put an extension lead out of the window and only have 100ma protection at present.
