I'm wanting to run 4 lights using 2 switches and 3-core cable.

From the consumer unit i've ran the cable into a junction box which also goes to the 1st switch and to the 1st light, then to the second light, 3rd, 4th and then to the other switch how would this be wired? Thanks!

i also have the same feeling... the JB will need to be placed where it is excessable at all times... 17th edition....

Like it Dan :D

the cable run for 1 and 2 way lighting it the same, u run 3 core and earth from 1st switch to the 2nd switch.

first switch, brown L1, blue with brown sleave L2 this is from the the light.

the 3 core brown in the common, grey in L1 black in L2,

2nd switch with 3 core brown common grey L1 black L2

sleave all non brown conductors with brown sleaving, all earth terminate to box each sleaved induvidually

Do not be confused by the number of cables "wires" for multiple switching.

Once you fully understand the principles of multi switching it is possible to do loads of lighting controls.

If you are at college I sugest that you ask, ask and ask again until you fully understand what you are being taught.

I see loads of apprentices who are so afraid of being singled out for asking questions, then plod on without fully understanding what they are being taught.

I was one of them so I know.

Now I do not care if I am laughed at, if I want to know something I have forgotten, or do not understand I will always ask, beats making a total fool of myself when it comes to doing something that I have no idea what I am doing.

I am nearly 50 years old and still learning, and will alway continue to learn, because you young lads bring new talent and methods into the industry.

The fact that you are asking the question implies to me you want to do it right, and the advise and the excellent diagram above will help you to do it right.

green hornit, is my post clear ? i know what i mean

I was working at a collage in the food hall with metal conduit about a year after I had left collage myself ... hadn't used the stuff in ages and I was trying to put a bubble set in.... completely forgot.!!!

So I marched of the the Elec installation dept, and asked for a quick reminder!

They where more than happy to help and it meant I didn

that could be fun!!!!!! make sure u know what u are doing before you do it... try to draw the circuit out on paper first as this will help you out...

So long as the switch not labelled L1, L2 & L3 :D
:D

yer and he dont want to be running twin and earth and 3 core and earth to both switches either

u can always guarentee my post will be ledgible with excerlent spilling an d england:D

do u want all the light s to come on together on a 2 way switch?

ye but im only doing the 1st light and the 1st switch first because i'm unable to do the other lights yet because i need a cherry picker to get up which i dont have a license for!

i dont have any ware near the experiance as some of the guys on here, and i cant see the job, so i would wait for more advise, but by sounds of it i would run twin and earth from cu to first light then from there to the first switch and wire it as one way.

if u know were the 2nd switch is going wire first switch 2 way and take 3core and earth to the 2nd switch and wire it 2 way
