230V AC to 24V DC

Hi all

I've got a 230V control panel managing pumps and i wanted to monitor and record what happens to them (when they are activated etc) via a 24V DC piece of electronic trickery. What sort of transformer / convertor would i need in between the 2 ?

Where does this box of tricks connect too? 
Are you sure it should be mains side?
