Hi guys,

A maintanence spark friend of mine sent me this picture, its 'of an old custom made 3phase boiler control panel in a shopping centre'. There are 4 of these devices 2 connected to red and 2 connected to yellow phase. He asked:

What is it

Why does it only connect to red and yellow phase and not blue

Where can i get a replacement.

My best guess is that its a voltage rectifier, after that im at a loss, this isnt something i normally deal with.

Any help would be appriciated.

Cheers,

Tim

That cylindrical thing with the thick and

thin lead coming out looks like an SCR, or

Silicon controlled rectifier. Also called

a thyristor stuck on a massive heatsink.

IMHO.

Why are there four of them?

Thanks for the reply technician,

As for why are there 4 of them i cant tell you, i havent seen the panel my self and he doesnt know what hes looking at.

he tells me there is red in, red out and yellow in, yellow out. I asked for a better picture but the one he sent is not much better, i will post it below untill he gets a better one.

The 2 fuses below are semi-conductor fuses if that helps.
