so a speed camera on the M6 has caught 5500 speeding in just 5 weeks.

yet no accidents have occured?

and its caught so many that police are only going to prosecute those over 60mph because of limited resources (but most likely have more resources once they get the

The message is a simple one...

Don't speed, then you won't get caught.

I am all for cameras. Preferrably, ones that are hand held.

i have no problems with cameras that have a reason, and where the speed limit it reasonable for the conditions, but the problem is many are set just to catch as many people as possible

they say the '50 zone' is for workers safety - yet i have been through many roadworks on motorways where there has been no reduction in speed, but still no accidents

typical example

dual carriageway near me, has a 50MPh limit (should be 60 in my view, and it does change to 70 further down), but anyway)

now has road works and a 30MPH limit. which starts a full mile before the first lane closure

there should be no speed cameras. there should be more police out there instead

'Speed Kills'

No it doesn't.

The whole thing is completely ****ed, the general public have been brainwashed into thinking cameras every 20 yards and 5mph speed limits everywhere are fantastic, but no-one lives in the real world any more.

At the end of the day, it's a tax, so as long as it pulls in money and shafts the population then it stays.

It is fact...

that when traffic lights are not working there are less accidents than when they are....

i got pulled over by an unmarked police car in Jan.

67 in a 40

he put me down as excess speed,, no points after i excepted a S.A.W.

course

catching speeders is all about making money, everyone knows it. Speed cameras have never cut accident rates, so therefore completely pointless. I hate all these government adds that are full of lies, speeding is a factor in such a small percentage of accidents.

i'm not condoning it, and I'm not saying i never do it, but if it was such a serious issue, why not ban anyone who is caught speeding for length of time depending on severity? Surely that would be the only way to eliminate it! but its obvoius the government wants people to speed to make money.

they do! over a ton and its an automatic 12 month ban! I think they should concentrate on the daily examples of bad driving I see such as people wandering all over the road cos they are on the phone, eating, doing their maker up or just messing about while at the controls of a killing machine! These sort of things are more dangerous than going a few over the max! Oh yes and they should stop people smoking in their cars even if they are on their own they might drop a ciggy and burn their bum and crassh into someone!

Sorry Guys,

There is no argument for not to have cameras. The "They make all this money on us" is an old outdate and lame excuse.

Don't speed, you won't get caught.

I understand what you mean about the roadworks Andy. But we still have to do the set speed limit.

No-one does the speed limit all of the time.

But, I am all for speed cameras as I have said on here many times before.

More so, the Hand held laser ones.

The static Gatso ones are a waste of time (Normally) as people know they are there and they slow down to pass them, only to put their foot down again, once they've passed the white road markings.

And I am also a stronger beliver in getting rid of the law that states that the police has to display signs saying that there are speed cameras there, whether there temporary or perminant.

I was caught speeding 14 Years or so ago. I accepted it as I knew the speed limit and I chose to break that limit for my boss at the time. It was no good me whiging about it.

Ban sat navs for certain people

how often do you hear a news report stating

'car travelling the wrong way done the motorway/duel carraigeway'

Thats your satnav for ya !

they shouldnt be allowed on the windscreen it blocks vision and when muppets have the light on bright during the night the should be shot..

Double the speed limit too is a nice break from driving. They can be challenged though so if you will loose your job because of it then they can and most likely will give you 1 points instead.

I see people wandering all over the road for many reasons. My GF got very annoyed with this stupid woman drifting all over a dual carriageway (in the outside lane holding us up. I ended up undertaking her after a mile of hooting and flashing my lights at her. She didn;t even see me and I have a Range Rover because she was too busy talking to the kids in the back seat and turning around. She should not be driving either.

I do know a guy who's life was saved by smoking while driving on the M4. When it burnt down to his fingers it woke him up! I did rather un-politely suggest he shouldn't drive too.

And the Police force only get that money if the back of the gatso has a high visibility sticker or paint on it. Else it goes to the government.

Not sure that woman that drove into that large puddle the other week had satnav as I believe she was a local. Apparently she did stop and thought it looked quite deep when her front wheels were in it so tried to get it in reverse and failed so put it into 1st again and went further in. OMG why?

Ironically my spell checker on this puter wants to replace satnav with Satan. Spooky.

Not only highly visible but one with a white border outside the black box otherwise you can get off like the off duty traffic cop that said the camera was unlawful and got let off.

But Claire Armstrong, co-founder of Safe Speed - which campaigns against speed cameras - said: "We're pretty disgusted. It's obviously got nothing to do with road safety.

"The fact it's raising so much revenue will add to the police/public divide and continue to make people believe it's just about making money."

Ms Armstrong said traffic police officers are a much better judge of road safety as they assess a motorist's overall driving, not just their speed.

"You don't measure safe driving in miles per hour," she added.

The M6 roadworks are due to be completed by 26 March.
What a rediculous statement to make.

And she's a co-founder of "Safe Speed".

She needs to rethink the name through.

Why? I have seen dodery old people at 30 that are much more dangerous than some people I have seen doing 60+. Just imagine them doing 60 and that will be much worse than a careful driver doing 90. Cars these days are much safer and percentage wise I bet less people die per year on the roads than 40 years ago. Back then they had no speed limit on some roads as it was only introduced during the oil crisis.

German autobahns are some of the safest and some of them still have no speed limits.

Well someone's quite susceptible to propoganda. ;)

It's not just a black and white 'don't speed and you won;t get a ticket', just like it's not a black and white 'speed and someone dies'.

The standard of driving in this country is shockingly awful, but speed is the only real thing that is targetted as it is easy to spot with fixed cameras. There's also the revenue issue which is something else this country likes to do, rape itself.

Drivers should be taught to a higher standard in the first place, and penalties for crimes in geenral in this country should be more worthwhile than some of the ridiculous 'just give us
