73v earth

Today I came accross a switch and a light with no cpc. The earth cable was there and connected but must not be connected elsewhere. When doing an R2 test with the circuit off it showed open circuit, with the circuit live it showed 73v on the earth at both switch and light??

if its not connected either end, then its most likely inductance

I'd had mine for 20 odd years but the proliferation of RCDs made me throw it away in frustration. If there's a modern equivalent that doesn't trip RCD's I'd be grateful if you could dig out the model number.

i dont believe the design has changed so may still have a problem with rcds, i very rarely use mine, induced voltages fool my fluke t5 and my MFT but not the matindale.

there is a way of stopping the rcd tripping,

just link out the rcd from live to live neutral to neutral, job done :^O

I had this in an old cottage once... they were getting a tingling off one of the metal light switches!

ended up lifting most of the floorboards in the 2 x bedrooms above to get at the offending JB's
