Just half heard a story on the radio about the 'AA' going into the home maintenance / service market...

Bit like them 'Home-serve' type companies.

Bloke was saying engineers will arrive in an 'AA' branded van and do the home repair / service on Plumbing, Electrics, Heating etc...?? ?:|

I think it was some sort of an insurance type package you pay monthly premium to get your call outs covered.

Anyone else hear anything about this?

As it looks like we will get the Gas man & the AA man going to fix the faulty CU, I suggest Electricians also need to consider branching outl.................

Maybe I shall start selling flowers as well?

Delivered to the door whilst out and about on me travels... undercut the local florist. ]:)

and

Deliver a few bottles of milk while I am at it l!!! :Blushing ]:)

May as well offer to take in a bit of Washing and Ironing to pack out the comprehensive service package!!!!!! :Blushing ]:)

Crazy they all go crazzeey! :| :(

So we can expect the AA to phoning round the "P" registered lists offering us loads of work if we just send them a cheque , like that bloody outfit that calls themselves BT .

" Oh dear all the lights have gone out ...phone the telephone company quick "

" No no don't panic dear ,, I'll phone the AA "

It appears to be true, a quick search brings up these couple of links. Looks like it is still be at the pilot stage at the moment, not yet running nationally. Has anyone seen an AA Home Assist Van whilst on their travels?

Home AssistIn the South East of the country the AA is also piloting Home Assist which offers plumbing and electrician services. Intended to go nationwide the AA is building up a network of plumbers and electricians in AA vans to work in your home.

Yes I heard the same on radio 5 today, it's not just an insurance service, they are planning on providing qualified tradesmen under the AA banner to undertake all work not just insurance work.

Apparently they are currently trialing the services in Basingstoke & London.

The conversation went along the lines of ....."yes we at the AA are concerned that the public are employing cowboy electricians, so we are aiming to provide a service where the customer is garanteed that they are employing a qualified tradesperson"

F****** cheek is what I thought, bet the NIC & co are well chuffed with that.

They have even teamed up with some handyman outfit in london, so they can do those little diy jobs for AA customers, jobs like putting up shelving or hanging pictures....................... Thats what the man said.

Heres the quote from radio 5 & it was in the context of employing the services of a sparks.

I have just sent them an e-mail, I await a response but doubt they will commit.

Just like homserve and others they will charge premium rates and rip of customers, just because of brand marketing.

Trust? you have got to be joking, wrap anything up in trust me and your asking for trouble.

I did want to ask if I could now do roadside assistance, but refrained.

The only reason they are doing it is to make money, the electrical safety council ran a grants scheme, age concern run a handyman scheme, and they all think its cheap.

I have done callouts where I have waived the fee or charged as little as

Done exactly this last night, called to a customer of mine an old couple who had a non functioning flood light."we know what the problem is the bulb has blown, but are to unsteady to get up the steps"

Up the steps swapped the lamp all before the brew was made & they were expecting a

Shame the cu..s don't look after there customers. I was a member twenty odd years ago going to college doing my electrical training at the time. Coming up to roundabout cam belt went. From the time I called them to when I got home was about five hours, absolutely disgusting. my wife broke down on motorway with young childern in car and was told it would be about two hours before they could come out. When she said she had children in car she was told what do you want us to do wave a magic wand. Personally I think they are a shower of s..t and if people want to spend
