I live in a ground floor flat and want to add this either above or at the side of my kitchen door.

The flat has two ways in either the main entrance to the block and then through the front door or just straight in the kitchen.

The extractor fan in the kitchen is on the same wall as I want to place the light, it is wired into the kitchen ring via a fused spur.

can I add a cable onto the load side of the spur to power the light and what type of cable would be suitable as I plan to run the cable straight through the wall and then horizontally along the outside of the wall.

Ive only suggested the extractor fan as a point of tapping into the power as it is on the same wall and already at the same height, apart from the spur feeding my washing machine there are no other outlets on that side of the kitchen

I like the look of those but don't think it would work above my kitchen door very well as there is a balcony for the flat above directly inline with the doorway

use 1mm twin & earth  & take your supply from the extractor, so long as the supplying fuse spur is fused at 3 - 5amp.

depending on how you run the cable this may be notifiable (as in Part P) work.

Or call an electrician .
