Last year Little PD got an Android tablet.

This year, santa is bringing her a bigger and better one.

I want to get all the apps she had on the old one onto the new one.

New tablet set up and logged into Google Play with the same user account.

Now it looks like it wants to charge me to download apps we have already paid for?  Is that right?

If so is there a way to copy them from the old tablet to the new tablet without involving google play?

Good try Ducky

the one we are struggling with is Minecraft.

It's not in the list of My Apps under google play.

So perhaps we bought it from Amazon? so logged into the Amazon app store, but not there under my apps either.

So this brings me back to the original question, how to copy it (or move it) from the old tablet?

I don't want to pay for it a second time.

If you find the appropriate .apk file you can transfer it to the other device and then you'll need to authorise "install from other sources" (or something like) on the new tablet... Then just click on the .apk file and it'll install.

And where would I find .APK files on an android? I don't understand the hierarchy of the file system.

I can't find a file manager on the android to browse with so I have plugged the android into my PC via USB so I can browse there.  Searching for *.APK only finds 8 files and they seem to be different versions of the Amazon app store, certainly nothing mentioning mine craft.

I have found com.mojang.minecraftpe-1.asec which is 23 megabytes which is in E:\.android_secure

I guess just copying that is not going to work is it?

I haven't a clue.... I don't play it and I'm not paying £5 to find out the file system I'm afraid...

It'll probably be in that folder, but could be within a hidden folder or just a hidden file

Maybe try an "app backup" app?

Just copying the apk will not solve the issue as licensing will still come into play. You need to find where you purchased it from first off. If you have logged into the tablet with the same account and it was purchased from play store then you should just be able to download it again. Where it would show you the price it would show purchased. All else fails try contacting mojang but they may not be as helpful now that Microsoft has bought them...

Ah

Ah, minecraft,  AFAIAA, you don't actually have it installed as such, you simply log in, the thing installed is just a shortcut,

You should be able to log in from most any similar device, I can play it on my phone,  the wifes phone, or my nexus7, all the same account,

The other apps, as someone said, we just synched across the two tablets with the same login to googleplay.

Have a look at mojang website, I'm sure it explains it there.

this is driving me nuts now.

So go to minecraft.net.

There's a link "already bought the game, download it here....."

Press the link, and there's downloads for everything EXCEPT android.  headbang

click the ordinary "get minecraft" link and select Android, and it wants to charge me £4.99 for it again.  :well-confused:

All I am trying to do is get a game we have paod for trasfered from one android tablet to another. Why does it have to be this hard?

I'm baffled now.

Tried just logging in on line, but it's not recognising any of our email addresses.  Tried every email address we have and the "forgot my password" option. If it found an account at any of our email addresses we would have received reset your password instructions.  But nothing so it doesn't recognise us.

Sorry, I dont understand.

You first asked the question at  10:17 AM its now 10:38 PM that is over 12 hours you have spent trying to save a fiver, was it worth it?
yes

its a principle,

doesnt matter if its a fiver

or 5K

its mine, I paid for it, do you buy a new car everytime it runs out of fuel? or you put new tyres on?

Wife said the same thing. Just how long are you going to waste tying to save £4.99

Principles my dear fellow, principles, I have paid for it so shouldn't have to pay again.
