i have a long list of numbers in column B (all 5 digits), but i need to copy them to row A. but the problem is, i also need to change them from ##### to *#####* (to a barcode font). any ideas?

All numbers are consecutive

If I get your drift, enter the first three numbers cell by cell in the series, then highlight those 3 by left clicking over the cells, you will see a tiny square in right or bottom most cell, move the cursor over and it will change to a +, drag alone the cells, down the rows you wish to number and it will populate in the sequence, you can do this with time, days, months too!!

Let me look at the barcode bit, or send me an example file and I'll have a go

already tried. that way works fine for gettin all the numbers there, but if i add the *, it repeats the numbers i have highlighted

basically, i need column A to be

*50101*

*50102*

*50103* etc.

Column B will be above without *

for the barcode, i simply change the font (i have a barcode font installed, but if i dont add the *, it cant be read by a barcode scanner)

Also look at the custom option in format cell just in case I misunderstood what your asking

OK excel thinks * is multiply so is a reserved character if you put '*50103* it tells excel to treat as text, I have to go and eat now but if still stuck pm me

Enter your numbers in column B

A1 should be ="*"&text(b1,0)&"*"

Copy to other cells in column A

Alter your font in column A to your Barcode font
