It is actually a burnished finished 😀 I used a  "com stick" that we used to use for cleaning the slip rings on exciters.

Well SW pretty much got it, and Ruston hit the nail on the head. 

We found an old clock built by my Grandad, took it on as a little project to get it working again. The original mechanism was damaged. I managed to source another, but it requires a slightly heavier weight. 

So the plan is to press this one over the original, worked out it should be about right as it is. I will drill out of the bottom of it if less weight is required.
