the seriousness of this has been somewhat underplayed.

basically, the thing that everyone is told to check, the padlock on the https is supposed to be red if the certificate is not correct, or the page in insecure.

due to this "dropped ball" using - any by the looks of it - apple product meant that this fundamental security feature was essentially useless, and somebody could intercept ALL traffic that was supposed to be secure. passwords, account details, the whole lot.

dropped ball indeed.

Ha, this doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Apple aren't indestructible and there's obviously holes in their systems SOMEWHERE, people just haven't found them yet.

most OS , inc Linux and apple/OSX have holes in security,

the thing is, none quite so massive as windoze on a daily basis,

Linux in essence , including OSX [as it is a Linux rip-off] requires user input to allow the virus to infect, unlike windoze, which allows virus infect on 'click' or 'download'

The only thing for me and I suspect a lot of other people is the price you pay for this. I mean, fair enough, Linux is free, but OSX is only available on Apple products meaning you pay through the ass for mid-range specs. As long as you're careful with Windows and you've got good anti-virus software, I can't see it being THAT bad..

Ha, nice. Well I was getting blue screens recently on the gaming rig I had custom-built for me and it didn't wipe any data, was just a dodgy hard drive that needed replacing. Luckily it was only the secondary drive and not the SSD that Windows is installed on. :p
