How much would you expext to be paying a second year apprentice, and is this affected by the minimum wage legislation (the boy has turned 18). Just want to make sure I'm not under paying him.

i think the minimum wage will apply. How much he does get would have something to do with how useful he is. does he work hard or stroll in 2 hours late every day?

Binky thats exactly how i looked at it

up until he can be trusted to work alone and not kill himself he's only someone who drives round jobs with you, this lad was a good lad, never late, never sick always keen but the messiest worker in the world, you could follow his mess round the job and know exactly where he'd worked, but give him 2 way switching to connect and he'd lose the will to live...

dont forget as good as he is, with the current climate, he needs you more than you need him.

That'll be teenagers for you - his mum does the cleaning, shame she doesn't come to work with him :^O

In the current climate he knows he's best off on low money, than no money - strangely sensible lad like that

My favourite jibe for him is 'stop having a teenage moment and get moving' all said and taken in good jest, but it is funny sometimes, especially the vacant look when he's forgotten what he's meant to be doing :^O :^O

My experience as a sole trader was the lad that was helping me out was not very good and as he was not an apprentice I had to pay him the minimum wage which was about

He's not that useless or I wouldn't tolerate him. I can pretty much leave him to work on his own whilst I get on with oddity stuff, CUs etc. On a good day he manages at least half a days work (second fixing, pulling cables etc), so charge accordingly, but generally I work on about
