Armoured Cable

hi all,

Just wondering does armored cable need to be earthed on both ends or is one end ok ?

Please advice ?

From an NIC guidance note, only one end needs to have

the armouring closest to the supply terminated.

The termination methods differ for ferrous and

non-ferrous enclosures.

Is the cable to be buried or is it completely exposed?

I would just be careful about using the armouring as

a protective conductor if the cable is buried.

I think some on here would use a conductor in the

core as a protective conductor if the cable is buried.

What I meant was the end closest to the DB has the

termination applied to the armouring.

the cable is 3 core - so i'm not using the armoring as a CPC.

Does this affect your advise ??

The SWA should be earthed that's the point of it, especially in the ground.

the supply end must be earthed, the other end doesnt need it, unless your using it as a CPC

How do you earth the Armour ? Jubilee Clip ?

in some cases, yes

if you split the strands of the armour you can usually get some of them into a 15 or 30A connector block.
