back box - tip and trick to rethread

Plastered in back box - you come to fit the face plate - you insert the screw and damn the thread in the box is knackered - Is there any easy and quick way to rethread these. I know you can take the box out but probably result in making a mess of the plaster.

Any pointers please

A hand threader, can pick up off the shelf at most electrical wholesalers.

If that doesnt work drill and tap the back of the box and use a long screw

I had a couple a while ago where the screw wouldn't get a grip in the lug - looked like they had been pressed out a shade too big, so rethreading no good. I used my snips to nip the hole down a little and then rethreaded. Worked a treat, happy me.
