Hi,

When wiring a bathroom extractor fan. If the customer wants the fan to come on with the light and go off when the light is turned off. Is it ok to take the Switched Live & Neutral from the lighting circuit to the fan and put a cable link on the fan connections from Live to Switched Live. Is that acceptable??

Thanks

you can if you like but you won't get the over run feature of the fan, the fans we fit at work(greenwood cv100) run constantly at a low speed then speed up when the light is turned on, they only use about 2w on low and 5w on high :)

You mean via a isolator switch? Also, isn't there some requirement for overrun depending on size (possibly in Part C)?

Yeah sorry.... from light circuit to switched FCU 3A) outside bathroom then on to fan but with the link at the fan. The customer wanted to fan to come on with light and not overrun.

Thanks everyone

As I said above, it may be required to overrun. Are you completly satisfied that this requirement does not apply?

Could be wrong but don't bathroom fans have to go through a Triple Pole Isolator?

If you are taking 3 live cables in but if he only is taking 2 live (switched line and neutral) then it will only need a 2 pole isolator.

Gotcha, he's not using the over run so no perm live. Cheers

If this is a notifiable job, (which it is if its domestic bathroom), I`d agree with Ian; In order to comply with building regs, you may well need the over-run feature to be active.........
