How can I get a flat oblong shaped mounting bracket to attach to the top of my conservatory, any help would be really appreciated thank you

I have done a fan light before in my living room with the mounting bracket attached to the joists but unfortunately I only have metal frame and really could do with a little advice on screws and bolts and how to do it securely thanks for any help provided by anybone

Self tapping screws.

If the bracket doesn't have a hole then you drill a slightly larger diameter hole than the screw then screw in the bracket and if you have self drilling screws let that create its own hole in the roof beam, if you have the non self drilling them you need a pilot hole in beam.

So these self tappers are they to go in the light fitting or are they to make screw hole for spring load bolt and nuts and bolts

Self tappers are screws that make their own fixing hole, you screw them up and they hold tight, they are not designed to be regularly undone and done up as it can cause the hole to open up and make the screw a loose fit.

Are used for fixing one object to a metallic beam/brace etc.

I'm guessing you are trying to fit a ceiling mounted , circulating  fan to the aluminium struts behind the plastic trims .

Sometimes you can fit a block of wood between the aluminium profile,  then drill a couple of holes through the metal & use woodscrews to hold it in  place. .

If , perchance, you are fitting one of those Punka fan type things with the long wooden paddles ,  beware of conservatory roof that slopes at an acute angle and the paddles hit the ceiling .

Do it like a pro with some left over kitchen shelves and 2 tubes of GripFill  :B
