Hi guys,

Just thought that I'd wake you up.....

I've got a job to price and do for a friend... 6 x brick lights in a couple of walls.....

So looking at previous posts it looks like an accepted way to do it would be SWA through Pratley boxes and then flex through copex to each light?

Having never used Pratley boxes before, do they need filling with a waterproof compound or are they good to go as they come?... obviously the joints would be burried.

Any advice would be great

pratley boxes are good to go as they come,

as with all of these things,

how much confidence do you have?

especially if you are using copex as an outlet..........

yes,

using copex I deffo would be using some sort of sealent,

just use a stuffing gland and ........

BTW,

pratley boxes are about as good as they get,

are you sure they need to be that good?

GH Lucas had some very nice boxes at Elex ( so it was worth me going then....)

looked like plastic SWA joints filled with some sort of Nano-slimslime what fittings are you using?...............I have 15 to put on a driveway, all wired, brick and seam left out for fittings.  Bought a blue LED fitting as a sample......pants!!!

Dont seem to be able to find any that are the size of an English brick.....yet!

In all honesty I don't know what fittings they are getting,,, I'm only wiring them up which is a bonus if they are pants as they will not be my responsibility ;) However I do know that they are looking at 230V LED and the ones that they have sent to me in a link do not come pre wired.

As for their size, hopefully they will come with a sleeve which will be the builders responsibility to fit; however I have told them that they need to buy the fittings and that I need to install the feed before the wall is built :)

I only have 6 fittings to do :|

Plastic adaptable box, Wago connections and filled with Magic Gel, job done.
This TBH is what I've been thinking of.... Gel filled Wiska box... Don't particularly like the idea of it being buried, but Pratley boxes are so blinking expensive...

Either that or a more centralised (larger) Wiska box under a garden step and then copex run to each light (as a duct)

SWA resin joint?
Doesn't take flex very well though does it :(

Crimped or Wago joints in a Wiska box, gel filled job done?

Would prefer a Pratley box though gel filled as they are more mechanically robust, I'm not sure of the IK rating on a Wiska TBH.

Can't even find an IK rating on the Wiska website.

And remember Noz , some fittings come flexed up and you need to have the joint within reach.

I've used steel conduit boxes in the past but had problems with the green plastic waterproof filling , which seemed to take in moisture until RCD tripped.

Theres a PVC w/proof box that Denmans stock , of which a lot of I have used !! (Eh!)     Wiska    £30 for 10   had no problems with them .

Can't u keep the armoured surface at the bottom of the wall on the opposite side? If that's feasible? Saves a lot of hassle.

Cheers Andy

Well,,, these walls are going to be retaining walls for a raised lawn and border... 3 bricks high one side and level on the other.. single skin!
