i have a SD card which has been broken - the corner of the plastic cover has been broken off. the PCB part looks fine, but PC cant read it. when i put it into reader, auto play box appears, but then says 'cancelling' at bottom. if i go to my computer and click the drive, it thinks about it for a while, then says its not formatted. click to format and it thinks about it again, then says it cannot be formatted.

i have a recovery program, that says 0 files found. any ideas how to get it working? even if it does need to be formatted i can get the files back, it just wont let me do anything with it

Which recovery program did you use? If it wasn't getdatabak then give that a go.

i have file scavenger. its worked well for me in the past, jsut this time i cant get computer to actually do anything with the card for it to work. ill have a go with that program and see if that gets anywhere

yes, its broke. cant see it too clear, but there is a tiny crack in the corner which looks like its broke the track... ill have a go at repairing it tomorrow, but im not very hopeful of getting it to work

Sounds liked it has been flexed and something broke. Formatting it would erase all the data on the card anyway.

If there is a visible crack in a track then by all means try dabbing a tiny touch of solder across it. Use traditional lead based resin cored solder.

the crack is very small... need a magnifying glass before i attempt a repair. it looks like only one track broken, so im hoping the solder will work. not really bothered if it gets formatted or not, the program i have can still recover the files (and youd be surprised at how much stuff is on your hard drive that can be recovered, even if deleted years ago!)
