Hi chaps I think it would help a lot of us if there was a thread listing BS numbers

For different types switches, fuses, sockets, plugs etc

If this info could include older types of fitting it would be especially helpful.

for example BS numbers for All switches, and then for all Breakers, then sockets etc.

people could include pics and explanations

perhaps this this thread could be sticky, Admin?

the trouble with appendix 1, is that it's very hard to work with, and doesn't offer really a lot of info. As it is arranged in the numerical order of the BS number, you have to look down a column of numbers to find what you are looking for, and when you do find it, you are sometimes still not completely sure that it is what you were looking for.

If the table was arranged with the titles in alphabetical order with the BS numbers against them it would be much more user friendly

For instance, a switch can be BS-EN 60947-3 or BS5419 or BS3676 or

BS60669 etc.(have I got them all?)

some of these numbers are not even in Appendix1, and it is difficult to sift through and match the titles to the numbers - Hard work! headbang

Even more confusing for the less experienced among us is trying to recognize the different types of fittings etc - especially in older installations - it can be quite daunting:pray

My idea was more a kind of, "Appendix1 Made Easy" type of thread,

with a list of numbers and an explanation, or relevant info, under each number.

This could be so helpful, especially since some of the stuff you come across is no longer current. And yes pics would help some of us too.

Would it not also be in harmony with the concept of this forum also to share such experience and knowledge? :put the kettle on

The idea is certainly a good one Musicspark, but logistically may be a bit time consuming. Possibly best just for photo's of an unknown item to be posted for others to identify as and when it occurs. As there are numerous versions of an item of switchgear that complies with a particular BS number, but all look a bit different due to manufactures design, it could almost be a never ending task trying to collate.

A never ending source of shared knowledge, more like!

How about a place for people to contribute, (similar to the black museum) - Working Museum, perhaps?

Not just switchgear; there's cable and plugs and sockets and fuses and boxes and....... etc etc
