Hi all,

I went to replace a cracked light lamp holder with a new pendant light when I came across some cabling I have never seen before.  There was 2 cables:

1. Red outer insulation containing 2 cores (Red, Live and Green, Earth)

2. Black single core connected to the neutral.

I have not been into the loft to chase the cables yet, however I was just wondering, is this just an old type of wiring?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

the colours are old,

but the type of cable is still in use,

sounds like single live & earth

and single neutral

still very very common.
