Not sure I fully understand. And don't worry I'm not going to do this myself _especially_ if it involves meter tails.

Obviously this sits inside an enclosure. At first I thought maybe someone might use it to sit inside a small enclosure just prior to the main consumer unit to allow switching between the generator and main supply. But they sell a separate populated enclosure for that. And using this rail mounted one wouldn't I do think be allowed in a different manufacturer enclosure.

I'm left with the possibility that it sits inside the main consumer with its input coming from the tails entering the main enclosure from the meter and its output going to the main switch. Don't worry once again there is NO WAY I would consider of doing anything like that myself but I'm still curious as to what this thing is for !

no, once 'isolated' from the mains then power could be applied from the other side, making it live. it is therefore not suiable for isolation

they could be fitted into the consumer unit and then feed an isolator, but easier to use them as intended in the tails
