Hi All

Just wondering what sort of margin most of you put on materials supplied for jobs.

Any information will be a help !!

Thanks.

Speedster.

I tend to double the vat, but 1 mate puts 50% on and another nowt, depends on client sometimes as well. Sorry not very exact!

That's about as exact as my answer would be TBH. One of those string length related questions.

15-20%

A real successful business type would tell you to use this much on top of the TRADE price, not your discounted price. Personally I don't do this.

As has aready been said, this is a bit of a piece of string question.

I can mark up between 10% & 80% & still be competive on parts depending on the job & mtl.

I can get some stuff at 78% off list & the best that most can get is 40% off list as I used to work for the co.!

As much as is feasible without exceeding the cost that Mr customer can buy it himself/herself at B&Q/WICKES/HOMEBASE/WILKINSONE etc. etc...

no good trying to charge a customer more than they can purchase it themselves.....

However less common/non-standard items wot DIY sheds don't stock have a little more leeway!!!

:Salute

Can they all deliver them to the door at the time required, and do they offer a warranty that includes removal and refitting, do they offer any credit services? No? Then charge whatever is reasonable for the services included with the product.

There's no wonder the industry is ********ed if everyone is charging

The question is about the MATERIALS...

Not any labour or Admin costs?

Warranty work IMHO that would be a separate job NO?

You are NOT seriously telling me you include the cost of possibly having to go back and refit a faulty item in the future just in case it MAY go faulty?

There's no wonder the industry is **ed if everyone is NOT INCLUDING ADMIN CHARGES (FUEL/TRAVEL TIME/PAPERWORK/ETC) AND double charging materials just in case it MAY go faulty!!!!

ALL my invoiced include three itemiseed costs:

1/ Materials:

2/ Admin:

3/ Labour:

I assume any competent person can suss out the distinctions!

I tend not to itemise that many invoices TBH, and if I did it would be labour and materials, and the markup on the materials is what covers the diesel to fetch it etc... The labour is the same for fitting it regardless of the cost of it and who supplied it.

+1

sundries included in materials

20% mark up

I can't believe people have the time to pick up materials. I rarely go into wholesalers just not enough hours in the day to do that.

I would say sometimes i would spend more time in the wholesalers than i do at a clients house. I think my record is just under one hour, it was on an extreamly busy day... but they do give me a good discount... The other day they said you know where the stuff is, come over the counter take what u want and leave it on the counter and pay for it that way.......
