hello chaps,

i am doing a stable and the cu is in the tack room above the light switches (so looping in the switch), the lights are strip lights, cable in conduit (1 per stable x3 2 in store 1 in tackroom) question is can i run 1 earth cable from the cu going from light to light?

thanks

oh and any tips for drawing the cables through conduit?

Bearing in mind that every point that requires an earth should have one..... and I guess that these lights are using several circuits???

You can share the CPC between circuits, but it must be sized according to the highest fault current that you could have

Best way to get cables through conduit is to use a lubricant and I always use nylon draw cords. I have two sizes and one of them has a steel end that can be used to pull the cable through.

Don't use a green-coloured washing-up liquid, the next spark along might think it's di-octyl phthalate (green goo to most of us) which appears when the plasticiser leaches out of old 1960's PVC cable.

Ding use washing up liquid! It contains salt, and other stuff you really dint want coming into contact with your cables or.tools.

Sorry rev , bit its nasty stuff. !

Yellow ,77 or.KY even if you are stuck, both friendly agents.

I wonder what the client would think if I whipped out a bottle of Durex Play

Disagree there should be a seperate CPC per circuit if conduit is not being used as CPC.

With t&e then yes but with singles in conduit, its much easier just to run a single (sufficiantly sized) CPC everywhere.

just to clarify chaps, there are 7 strips with 4 switches on 1 circuit so thought i could run 1x earth from light to light to save dragging an extra cable back to the switch from every light

If its all on one circuit I see no problem with the method you describe, that is what would happen if for instance you use gregs.

You could wire the switches with a common live, thus removing the need for two cables to be taken to each switch. This reduces the overall cable required for the single circuit lighting.

Are you talking about PVC or steel conduit ? Don't usually need a lubricant with steel TBH but PVC on PVC can start to bind. I've seen all sorts used in the past including Tallow, Butter off someone's sarni, WD40, polish , and a bar of soap .

And yes, just run the one earth wire , why would you do otherwise.?
