can you guys shed some light on this for me as i am confused. two terraced houses next to each other, earth rods side by side, both houses have old ELCB's. Would an earth loop impedance test have caused next door elcb to trip????

it is possible that EFLI test current could introduce a voltage to the ELCB of another property and cause it to trip

would this have travelled up his earth rod and tripped the elcb cheers

Yes

This was a common problem with the old Voltage Operated Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers.

Another good reason to ditch them and install RCDs

I'd concur with that , rods too close together as well. I believe voltage operated ELCBs should be removed as a matter of course anyway .

Two Volt Op ELCBs should never have had Earth Rods within same area of ground for this very reason.
