Merry Christmas folks!!

I have a Pulsacoil Hot Water storage system. I'm told it is somehow linked to a Radio controlled Timer system which is kept in a cupboard in a communal corridor. Said Timer is SUPPOSED to kick in in line with Economy 7 i.e from 11.30pm to about 6.30am, providing me with lots of hot water in the morning.

Trouble is, I get a fairly paltry amount of hot water before I head off for work, despite waiting in until about 8.30am! Only enough for a quick shower.

If I take a day off, by the time 12pm rolls around there's loads more hot water.

No idea what's going on there and obviously I'd like to avoid the 'Boost' option whenever possible.

Also, could anyone shed any light on a mystery for me? I have a 3 storage heater convector wall mounted system for heating my flat. Bizarrely, it seems that if I run it for any appreciable amount of time, I get more in the way of hot water!? Is this possible or logical? I thought the Pulsacoil Water Storage and the Newlec Convector heaters were two totally distinct entities that didn't (couldn't) influence each other in any way? Am I wrong about that?

Thanks a lot

Andy

Okay... I`se back.

It would appear that the problem is connected to the immersion stat. - means replacing the immersion. Here`s some salient points....

Heater length is 11"

You can buy the proper one at

http://www.segel.co.uk/

Draining down can be slow sometimes.

As can filling, which is best done slow to avoid air locks

When the unit is full just switch the supply on and off a few times ( this starts the pump) And helps with any air.

DO NOT switch any heater on until you are sure the unit is full.

(Thanks to Mike at Gledhill repairs for the info......).

Having said all the above; if the water DOES heat up eventually; there is a (slim) chance that the E7 timeswitch is out of sync, and is switching on late?

Check what time the green light comes on, on the front of the unit......

Thanks a lot for the replies! I will take a look to see what time the green light kicks in. I agree...I'd have thought the Timers were supposed to be Auto sync'd given that they're remotely controlled as it were. KME, (and Mike at Gledhill) I'm afraid I've no experience or skill in these things and there are warnings all over the front of the Pulsacoil advising me not to attempt to take the cover off, so I better leave that to an expert!

At least we've (you've) established that there is no direct connection / influence from the convector heaters! Thanks again.

You may find that the eco 7 meter is one of the old mechanical one's which will be an hour out in the summer but correct in the winter. (I think thats right, maybe the other way round.) You should be able to look at the meter, and check the time on it, it should be next to your normal meter. If its a digital teleswich, it may be combined with our normal meter.

If it's a communal timer for the submains to each flat of some sort there's a chance it is not a radio time switch and is just an immersion heater timer or similar providing the sync'ed switching to the flats via contactors.

I've seen some E7 time clocks that are as much as 2 hours out. Probably because they've been there years and never had the time corrected since they were installed. If this is the case it's just a matter of sync'ing the controls in the house to the time clock rather than BBC time.

you should be getting loads of hot water from the pulsa coil it is connected to the off peak and normal supply i have come across many of these wired the wrong way around

and if memory is correct I think there is 3 elements

make sure both switches are turned on

Bags of gratitude to the folks who've replied to this since I last logged in!

I'm feeling somewhat out of my depth - are any of you London-based, fully qualified (no insult intended, I guess I have to ask) and willing/able to look at/fix this for a reasonable fee? I like the sense of community here and am inclined to fix this via this site as opposed to 'ratedpeople' or some other site. First year of mortgage, so I don't have bags of cash to throw around but, equally, I won't take the proverbial.

Thanks

Andy
