Connecting Bullet Cameras

as the title suggests,

how do you guys hide the connections on bullet cameras?

a normal BNC wont fit through a 20mm gland? do you use 25mm glands?

or am I missing something here?

I can just get the leads and connectors behind a standard size dome,

but I have the same problem with mini domes as well,

what to do with the connections,

this is only at my own place, so no major panic, but if I was a paying customer I would NOT want visible connections,

actually, ive come to the conclusion that this is not something I'd be wanting to do, far to much hassle,

jaysus, i cant even please myself with positioning etc, so Im not going to be getting into this hassle with a customer,,,,,,

Dont fit bullets for that very reason as they look cheap and nasty like a DIY install

I fit domes and usually drill a 25mm hole and hide the cables in the wall cavity.

If that's not possible you can get spacers for most domes.

Any reason your fitting bullet cameras?

I've seen some people fit a 4*4 ABS box next to the camera and join in there but that looks **** aswell

Drill a bfo hole in the wall, wrap the joints in self amalgamating tape and fit the camera over the top...

Ive got a couple of bullets gave to me,

and the first one I bought was a cheap alternative to a ptz,

its mounted outside my bedroom window and I left the mounts just unsweetened on it so I can move it to the specific point where my van is parked outside the house each evening,

its fine as cables are hidden in loft, its mounted on the soffit,

the other 2 I havent mounted yet, next door bloke gave them to me and asked if I'd mind fitting one to cover the area between our 2 houses, obviously will be mounted fairly low [8-10 foot maybe] and so I need to hide connections to it,

I had planned to run a 20mm black to a wiska box at rear of house and mount camera just round corner on gable,

but, as I said, BNCs dont fit through a 20mm gland,,,,

ok, so it seems my other thought might be the best option,

fit a wiska box, drill a BFO hole in the back, notch the bottom,

that was the only option I could thing of, but I hoped you guys had a secret solution,  :slap

its the rubber seal it wont fit through,

so, on thinking that way, it probably would fit through a 25,,,,,,

will maybe try tomorrow, wonder if it will close enough though.

so what would I do then in seriousness, cut the BNC off camera, and use what?

suppose I could cut it off, thread through gland and re-terminate,

dunno if my BNCs or crimp would go down to that small a cable though,,,,,,

They do fit through a 25mm gland, but then the gland won't seal... you'd need to silicon it

There is a move in RF circles away from the traditional BNC to the LEMO-00 style which are a much smaller dia. The plugs are only 6mm diameter:

Would of course mean chopping the old connectors off.............

SOLVED,

been through my box of glands,

Ive found a 20mm gland the BNC will fit through,

problem, it wont clamp up enough, 

will try some shrink on it tomorrow to thicken it a bit, dont need much, i reckon a couple of layers, if I can get a big enough shrink to shrink small enough,,,,     :|

or put silicone in the heatshrink before heating it, so if it doesnt go small enough, its still filled

Could you maybe just sleeve the BNC with a bit of suitable sheath off of say tails or similar?

Ive been thinking,

if I put the gland at the bottom of the wiska it doesnt actually need to be tight as in IP tight, and i could secure the cable internally with a cable tie.

its going to be maybe 8 or 10' high anyway.

anyone disagree?

Nope, plus IMHO glands should not be totally relied on for cable support anyway.

If you're doing that then I'd still wrap the plugs/sockets with self amalgamating tape

Cut the BNC and power plug off and soilder and heat shrink onto the cable.

There's no need for the BNC if the join is decent.
