After calculating for diversity it equates to 17 amps. This is a cooker circuit, wired in 6mm

Not required as 6mm cable adequate for 32 A protection but if load not anticipated to be increased at a future time then good practice to size MCB to load i.e. 20 Amp MCB

It probably won`t be increased for some time yet as it is a new cooker. Thank`s for the speedy response.

The main concern that i had was if the cooker was in use and they decided to use a kettle at the same time as there is a soccket outlet on the ccu

So what is the full load for the circuit without diversity?

your in a situation heare where diversity isnt really a factor as the cooker rating is so low

if you put a 20amp in it will work fine with the calcs

as 6mm will be good with 32amp mcb i would stick it in anyway

Yup

Diversity is only really used to assess the maximum demand of an installation

When it comes to individual circuits then you would normally protect it with the lowest size MCB or Fuse suitable for the load.

However 6mm in most situations is protected by a 32 Amp MCB so it will do no harm to leave it at that.

That does rather depend on the installation method and voltage drop.

Ah ! Now what can this be ? " The CPD" Do I add it to the endless list, MCB,MCCB,RCD,RCBO MET,CPC ,HRC,TNCS,TT,TNS,SWA,MICC,EEBADS and the EEBARGUMS. ;)
CPD = Circuit Protective Device?!

Thank`s for the replies everyone. There is already a 32 amp mcb in place is was just debating upon whether to downrate it or not

Definitely ! CPD Eh! Every day in every way we learn a little more . Now I just need to try to remember it ........the Circuit Detective Province .... no ... The Circuit Davinci Code ...

What was the new cleverspeak name for Earth wire ..... Ah yes.. CPC ... the Circuit Protective Conductor... must start using that too. ; \

" Hey there is no CPC on this CT , what sort of CPD is it , MCB ,HRC ,RCBO,or 3036 ? " headbang :_|

I was torn on a decision like this not so long ago.

The 32A MCB protects the 6.00mm cable, so, in theory, is fine being left as it is, regardless of the load applied.

On the other hand, although there's no requirement to do so, by matching the protective device with the load, if there were a small fault within the cooker, causing a higher current to be drawn than is usual, the 20A MCB would be more likely to detect it and trip.

At first, I was all for leaving it as it is - now I'm more in favour of matching the device to the load and downrating.

Neither is wrong:)

Just my opinion.

Another thought, though:

Is it worth doing:

Is it notifiable - changing characteristics of circuit?

Is it EIC as opposed to Minor Works?
