This is an aside to another thread but I need to know if I am crimping wires to extend them and I have the old colours already as the circuit is it ok to extend with the new colours?

Also, what size wires am I likely to have coming from a domestic plug socket so I know what size wires to get to connect with?

Thanks

nothing wrong with mixing colours - just make sure there is a dual colour sticker on DB

sockets are usually wired in 2.5, but you will have to check first

As Andy says,,

It's usual to find socket sircuits (rings) wired in 2.5m T&E

The L&N conductors are 2.5mm and the earth is 1.5mm

So to crimp those you will need blue butt crimps for the L&N and red butt crimps for the earths, also some green/yellow sleeving for the bare earth and some heatshrink for any un-sheathed cables if they are not within an enclosure.

HTH
