Very true KME. Don't all new mobile phones now have to have a standard power adapter, I am sure I heard something about this several months ago?Doc H.
:Applaud

I hope so, kinda,

except my phone has one of those mini/micro USB plug things and it is a pain in the bum to get plugged in,

or am I getting old like KME.?

am I getting old like KME.?
You`ll have more "red dots" in a minute, pal :red card

Note to bar staff. Albert is barred from my Guinness until he apologises, and provides a decent brand of overproof rum to my humble abode.

OLD???

OLD????

:slap :slap:slap:slap:slap

If I laugh any harder, I`ll throw up - and that would be such a waste of Mr. Artois` produce.

:-]

Ha ha. You fellas are the best!

Thanks for answering my question folks.

I even learned something on the way.

And got entertained!

I've always been in awe of sparkies and this post has done

nothing to diminish that.

So I do a bit computer programming. So what? Big deal.

If I get it wrong, it don't work. If you get it wrong, you burn the house

down. Even though I learned something, you totally lost me in the end.

Thanks again, I think I will be ok then with my 0.5A 9V adapter. If it blows

up I won't be too gutted and I won't hold you responsible ; -)

I'll let you know how I get on...

Before I go, seeing as I've got your attention. Again, no big deal, but I

got a 4-Track Akai mixer from Canada that runs on 110V and I'm looking

for a step-down transformer? I think it is. So I can run it here at 240V.

Funny thing is, I have ANOTHER Akai mixer (identical) with a transformer

built into it - that is it can run on either 110V/240V, just by changing

a recessed setting with a screwdriver. Ironically, the unit is ********,

where as the unit from Canada is mint (but does not have the switch and

is set at 110V).

So.......my question is, apart from getting a step-down transformer?

How doable do you think it would be to switch the transformer out of

the knackered switchable unit - set it at 240V obviously and then put

it into the mint one, in place of it's 110v only psu?

The only reason I would want to do this is to do away with the need for

a 'wall-wart' transformer, and obviously just be able to plug my unit

into the mains.

Anyway, It's not important - I've found a tranny for

swapping the transformer over should be simple enough.

I'd take a few pics of the broken one, then take the cover off and a few more pics. It's already broken so nothing to loose. Post them on here and someone can advise.

The other thing - update your profile - so we know where you are. Someone might be near you and able to help you out!

:D

Cool. Just updated my profile. Was in a hurry when I did it ; -)

As for the transformers/psu things - Both work perfectly (well, I am

assuming the one from Canada works perfectly as I know and trust

the guy I bought it off - but, no I have not 'tested' it yet).

The '********' one also works perfectly, but the heads of the tape

machine are worn and mixer pots are noisy - I bought it as a spare,

it only cost me

Nice idea Albert, but the supply would prob. be too noisy for audio work - as `pache said, swapping the PSU over shouldn`t be serious trouble - take the top off, take a couple of pics, and get `em on here for us......

n.b. thanks for the thanks. Scoobs accepted anytime ;)

AH, OK, didnt think about that,

done a house a few years back and we had to hide a 110v trannie in a false back of a cupboard for this fancy american cookie/bagel machine thing,

F'in fancy singing toaster is all it was if you ask me, but lady of the house had brought it back from yankeeland and wanted to use it....

takes all sorts I suppose.

Current alternating at 50 times per second instead of 60 - I don't know enough about electronics to know how the 'Canadian Mixer' would react to this, but I'm guessing it wouldn't be happy:p

I don't suppose it would matter to the transformer - 50 Hz in ...50 Hz out, but again, the electronic circuitry might not be happy.

I'm sure you're going to enlighten us;)

Welllll,

Unless the drive motors are synchronous (in which case, imagine 45 played at 33 ;) ), the electronics will be fed a rectified supply anyway; so they wont care if its 400Hz aircraft supply!

The motors are a different matter. It is going to depend on what the drive is.
