Although now 8-15 pm  am awaiting delivery of a bookcase .

Ordered the wrong one last week , too small ,wife's fault, clicked the wrong doo-dah.   So they're swapping them at no extra charge , which I thought was very fair of them .  Their terms state if the goods are not faulty /damaged , delivery @ £40  would be payable .

Pine Solutions .com      Seems very good quality.

Anyway   , advice needed , we have some beeswax for some oak furniture , could we give it a finish it with that or should I get some varnish ?      Its pine . The one they sent looks great but too small .

Could try the beeswax on the back I guess.

You'll need to put a fair few coats on as the bee's wax will soak in & will show marks from water/alcohol or hot items if placed or spilt on it, you could put a coat or two of lacquer on first as a sealant.........that's what my old man does.

I French polished a gun stock once.........don't!

I settled on Linseed oil and stuck with that. Used to be able to ellicit a Pavlovian response from my retriever - let it sniff the oil bottle and it would think we were going shooting!

You might consider Linseed oil for the bookcase.

Wax has a better look and finnish but needs more maintenance.

Floors for example that are waxed need to be waxed regular to keep it in good shape. Wax finnish looks so much better.

Sealant/ varnish is harder wearing and needs less maintenance.

If you want to switch from wax to sealant, or sealant to wax then the old finnish needs to be completely removed (sanding) before putting on a different finnish.

According to my mate the wood floor dude
