Well don't!!

After years of a careful if not outstanding driving record tonight I wrote off my van.

I regularly place my paperwork in a file folder that I keep in the centre of by dashboard, its been like that for at least the last 20 years or so.

Today I was working and on my way home I negotiated a roundabout, a vehicle to my left decided to change lane at the last moment, then immediately changed their mind. I initially undertook evasive action and was reluctantly considering going around the roundabout again. However when the driver pulled back I thought I had a chance.

I quickly changed my steering which sent my file folder sliding over my dashboard. It instantly got stuck between the dash and the steering wheel and I was doomed.

I ended up down a ditch knocking out a set of public walkway barriers and a couple of trees.

Every driver at the scene stopped to see If I was OK, except the pillock who pulled out on me.

Moral?

Never put anything on your dashboard!!

Witnesses at the scene told the police the same story I told. Which looked good for me. I do wish I had a camera though and will investigate for my new van due next week.

We lease them, and this van was due back in two weeks time.

Ive got a cheapo cam on my van, <£15, plugs into cigarette lighter, starts when ignition turned on, works on an 8G sd card that I had lying around, dunno how long it records on it for, but records in 10minute intervals continuously on a loop system.

get an air horn, that would get the twats attention. and a dash cam. and let them hit you, then its their problem
Doubt it. Air horns often make people "jump" A dash cam may have also seen paperwork shooting across the dash.

Sad to admit it but, when i have to carry paperwork it goes on the floor (in a bag or what ever) and I never leave any loose change on show, and if you have a car never have anything on the parcel shelf.

oh, forgot to add, incar camera £14 + sd card from Amazon

that looks to be the same cam I have,

just checked, 12£ of the popular auction site,

Im running mine on a class 4 card, which isnt ideal, but I had it lying around.

great value for money,

Its a fact that where vans are concerned, the amount of paperwork strewn across  the dash is proportional to the crappiness of the parking ;)

Glad to hear you aren't hurt Manator

Could've been worse I suppose Maneater .  Like Richard 1X   I dump paperwork on the passenger side floor TBH.

Years ago, the firm I was apprenticed with had a small truck that delivered around the sites ,  the one prat they had driving it dumped an empty pop bottle on the floor  .............this rolled under the brake pedal and the inevitible happened !!

Sorry to hear about the accident.

I wouldn't mention the folders when you do the insurance claim. Just concentrate on the prat that cut you up forcing you to swerve to avoid hitting him.

I was looking at the dash in a builder's transit the other day........ a great pile of , drawings , invoices , tools , long forgotten sandwiches  , delivery notes , clipboards, fag packets , petrol receipts and a years supply of copies of The Sun .

The insurance company have been excellent, because of the police attendance and witness statements no fault (direct) has been levied upon myself. Although liability is mine.

What really gets under my skin is the driver who pulled out on me just drove off, whilst innocent bystanders took the time to check if I was OK before continuing their journey.

There are a lot of good Samaritans out there, though there are just as many idiots.

I will see if I can post some. It was not pretty and I am not included in any close shots!!!

Strange... Thanks for telling me though, but i do not really understand what "apps" are anyway.. Still, I have had trouble with that photobucket crap before. Mind you, when i click on it all that happens is a rather nice photo of young rachel appears..

john...
