Off on a slight tangent....
When I was a young-un my first memories of Dr Who were John Pertwee & then the classic Tom Baker with his jelly babies & long scarf..
And confession time.... I was so impressed with Tom Bakers Dr Who Scarf, that my mom knitted me long scarf in a similar multi-coloured type pattern... And I still have the scarf today kept in a draw my wardrobe.
Mom passed away a few years ago, but the scarf is now pretty much a family heir-loom that cannot be disposed of!
When I look back at old episodes with Tom Baker I am sure there were various scarfs of different sizes...?
But I reckon Mom probably used an image similar to this for her design.... as my scarf is approx 13foot long and 1foot wide...
